Profile: S. Byrne

Personal background
I'm a naturally skeptical female with an applied science background. I live in Victoria near the coast and have a keen interest in aquatic research. Writing is something I must do; it is not merely a hobby. I dabble in web design and am currently doing the Master of Communications. Participatory WebGIS is probably going to be my research focus.

The picture is of Henry the Tuatara. He's over 100 years old, a relic reptile. I've seen him in Invercargill and he's adorable.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have wanted to engage with SETI@home for some time now, having seen some interesting UFOs in the past. For me it's not a question of 'I want to believe' because I am naturally skeptical and tend to explain things away. The existence of intelligent life beyond Earth seems obvious to me, and I would love to partake in a project that speeds the likelihood of discovery along. I have been involved in UFO forums in the past and find the subject fascinating. I don't have any suggestions as I'm a newbie and am learning from scratch. Further, I don't have much experience in astronomy so it will be a steep learning curve.
