Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
When asked if I belive if extraterrestrial life exists, I always think of a line from Monty Python, "And pray to God there's intelligent life somewhere up in space 'cause there's bugger all down here on Earth."
I hope that humans will find some evidence of extraterrestrial life. Often times I don't think humans can step back and look at how painfully ignorant they are being fighting wars over scraps of land on a speck of dust. I would hope that any evidence would shock the world into a time of reflection.
I think it would be a good idea to transmit a beacon for others to find. After all we are searching for someone else's beacon. What if there are others out there listening but because we aren't transmitting a signal they have nothing to find. "Two ships pass in the night."
I run SETI@home because it ts my computer to good use. Lord knows most of what I use it for is to play computer games and look up movie news. It's nice to have a program that uses the processor for something productive.
