Personal background
Hi, 1973, Netherlands, currently I am working behind computers.
But if a better job in the open air comes, I would grab it with both my hands.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Intelligent (= advanced) Extraterrestrial life does NOT exist.

Because if it does exist we wouldn't be here.
There are on earth several conflicts about land, resources and water. I do not think any intelligent extraterrestrial lifeform that (of course) also need resources will solve it with trade or politics.
It's like what happened to the Indians in South-America (and other "less advanced" civilizations). When a more advanced civilization comes in contact with others, the less advanced will be overwhelmed eventually.
That hasn't happened to us (yet).

Conclusion: The is NO intelligent Extraterrestrial life.
But I do believe there life on other planets, more like lichen, bacteria, plants, animals or even caveman-like intelligent life.

Why using SETI? 1) Maybe my thoughts can be wrong ;).
2) It's nice to be part of a collective "research".
