Personal background
i am a freelance motion graphics artist/designer in los angeles.

im interested in futuristic forms, electronic music, and the fusion of audio and visual in one piece to communicate abstract ideas and emotion.

if i cant seem to positively influence this world directly, i hope to do so through art and/or music.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
initially i was interested in distributed computing for the idea of rendering an independent CG effort. so when rc-64 came out i joined up, but what was the point in all this computing power just to decode some sort of silly message?
so when SETI@home began, i soon learned of it, and thought i would contribute. i love the idea of using my hardware when it is not in use for my work. (normally, i have at least 2 computers running seti).

do i believe in aliens? lets just say i gave up belief systems a few years ago, i now prefer the "i don't know" outlook on life.

i personally have seen no real evidence that extraterrestrial beings do exist. however, it seems likely that there is intelligent life out there, and i am highly curious to see and know about it. i think they can be either friendly, malicious, or some of both. looking at the circle of life on this planet may be a forboding projection of what we may find, though i certainly hope they are advanced enough to have evolved away from selfish attitudes... in this way tibetan buddhism is a wonderful example for us to uphold - they wont even harm a mosquito! their value system is entirely about serving others. maybe once we can evolve to that point as a race (of which i am not as hopeful of as i wish i could be), we would be worthy of possible contact from a possibly existent benevolent extraterrestrial race.

what information do we send? maybe a warning.. "unenlightened planet with highly violent and selfish tendencies, stay clear unless you can help."

i hope we learn how to manage our own planet before we reach out and violate what awaits us beyond.
