Personal background |
I am a 21 year old CNE, working in Cape Town, South Africa at a Radio Station. I've always been interested in space. I wanted to become an astronomer at one stage in my life, but the reality of astronomy in South Africa was that 1 out of every 10000 people find work. So I decided to become an Alien Hunter :) That is where SETI comes into play. I can still be a astronomer (sort of) and have a job :)
Update: I'm 26 now and in my final year of a degree in Physics and Astrophysics. About a year after the last entry above I decided to listen to my inner voice (might have been ET) and do what I've always wanted to do. So here I am, sitting at the 3rd largest telescope in the world (SALT) editing my SETI@HOME profile. Kinda cool !! :) Couple more years to go and I'll be a fully qualified astronomer !!! |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I am sure that ET's really do exist, as Carl Sagan would have said "If it's only us then it seems a awfull waste of space". Will humans ever discover ET's ... I think so, but not quite yet. Maybe in a few years when space travel really gets going. To increase the chances of finding our galactic friends we should send a signal from earth. What should we send ? Anything. At least that way they will know that there are other people out there.
Why do I run SETI@home ? My computer is on 24/7, so why not do something usefull with it :) And of course there's little chance that I am the one to find the Klingon's :) Happy ET hunting everyone. |
