Personal background |
I’m running a dual 2.2 gig xeon rig on a supermicro p4dce plus mobo. Generally I run four units at once and the unit time ranges anywhere from three hours to eight hours per unit.
I also run a dual 600 mhz p3 rig on an asus slot one setup with rd 800 (don’t see that every day) I am a system assembler for a local pc store in my area, my burn in test is to simply run seti units for a 24 hour period on any machine I build. Mostly P4's. I get a few 2.53s and 2.8s lately, 2.53 will run a three hour flat and the 2.8 will pull it off in about 2 hours 40 minutes give or take.
On my main rig (xeons) I run the setigate cache program, the op system is windows xp pro, I've gone to great lengths to minimize the overhead and find my very best time is 3 hours flat while running two units with the hyper threading disabled.
If your running a xeon rig and have any useful input or just what to compare note email me at gigantichead@hotmail.com

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Good cause, and a good way to bench mark and burn in. I wont get philosophical about it but surely anyone who thinks we are alone in the universe must evaluate his standpoint, the data we have on hand strongly suggest
otherwise.
