Personal background |
I'm mid-forties with 2 kids in elementary school. I grew up in Oberlin, Ohio; went to school (Computer Science & Mechanical Engineering) at the University of Virginia; went to work in Dallas, Texas. I am a System Engineer (got masters in SE at Texas Tech University). I am interested in science in general (and space program, astronomy, SETI, etc.) |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I started running seti@home in May 1999 (fairly soon after it started). I really liked the idea of a large distributed computing project using Internet connected computers otherwise sitting idle. I have been a member of the Planetary Society for a long time and have supported SETI programs through them. I like the idea of searching and believe it should be privately funded. I think there is clearly other intelligent life out there, but the chances of finding each other is much smaller. Once a society starts to spread out to other star systems, that increases the radiating sources, so if we pick up any signals, they will likely be from a society well advanced (technologically) beyond us. |
