Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think it's likely that extraterrestrial life of some form exists. If we were to send beacons, I'd think that any repetitive pattern of transmission would be effective. Prime numbers, as were received in Segan's "Contact", would be good. There are lots of similar possibilities. Although it's likely that other forms of intelligent life might not really have enough in common for us to really recognize each other, it's really all we can do at the moment.
