Profile: Grant Stephens

Personal background
Grant Stephens
(GCertSci, AACS)

Single dad from Melbourne and ex-serving Army veteran of 15 years, I've been immersed in information and communications technology for as long as I have memories.

I'm currently the IT Project Officer for the Victorian Stroke Telemedicine (VST), Australian Stroke Clinical Registry (AuSCR) and Australian Stroke Data Tool (AuSDAT) teams at The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health.

There is so much unused computing potential in everyday devices...it really is criminal to see so much wastage. In a way, the 6 instances of BOINC I have running across 3 projects is my passive-agressive protest against 'all the gear, no idea'... Just hope it helps!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It's unimaginable and inconsistent with logic to assume that we are alone in the universe. This massive, massive, massive expanse of everything and nothing...will take quite some time to explore, and whilst we are terrestrially bound at this stage in our technological lifetime, I am more than happy to put my hand up and contribute to the one method we currently have...

I'm glad to hear that there is more funding for more broad and far-reaching exploratory arms of this effort. Despite criticism and cynicism this is a worthy mission.

My only suggestion would be that the developers of BOINC create a client for popular gaming consoles...
