Profile: Richard Stitz

Personal background
I grew up in Southeast Missouri, USA and have always been good with computers. I have worked 23 years in a factory, 1 year writing software for robots, owned a business for 15 years selling computers with Linux and doing service work and now I'm a driver for a major railroad. On my time off I like to spend time with my family and friends and watch movies, play games, go fishing, camping, swimming and all the other outdoor stuff I grew up doing.

My favorite shows and movies are: Everything Star Trek, Firefly, Serenity, Farscape, space exploration documentaries, Big Bang Theory and just about any movie that is set off-world. I love this planet, but I can't wait to get off it lol.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I just started running BOINC for the SETI project. Since its beginning, I've heard of it and thought that it was a good thing, and I can't tell you why I never participated before. With my background, it doesn't make sense not to.

I think the SETI project is a great idea, it's just natural to want to seek proof for something that we already know is a statistical certainty. I likely won't be the one who finds the proof, but I want to be able to tell my grandchildren that I was on the team.

Since I'm so new to SETI, I'm hardly qualified to make any suggestion yet. I don't know what it was like in the beginning, or even last month...but when I do get an idea of what direction we're going I'll offer any suggestion I think of.
