Personal background
I'm an avid computer geek. I'm 25 years old and live in Saskatchewan (Canada). I have been an IT consultant for about 5 years now, and came on to the Seti project by having coffee with a coworker. I knew I would have to donate all my free CPU cycles the second I heard about it.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I definately think there are too many possibilities for life out there. I don't see how there couldn't be. I'm not sure when, I'm not sure how, but I'm sure that some day there has to be contact with something out there... Whatever it is.
I do believe we should send out a signal for others to find, but I think we should send it from Jupiter, or farther out. That way, if there is any hostile intent by our visitors, we could rig up our transmitter to upload every second of 'BARNEY the dinasour' to their computers and have them incapasitated by the time they get to earth. After all, how could it not drive them over the edge :-)
My reason for running Seti@home is because I am fascinated with the universe. Stephen Hawking got me started and now I just can't get enough. I think this project is great, allowing us 'non-astronaut' types to explore space in our own way. I have a number of computers, some of them dual processors, so I'm hoping to scan through as much as I can as soon as I have it all set up.
