Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
ad 1: I am convinced that we are not alone in the universe. Thinking something else is just stupid, ignoring the fact that our type of planet cannot be unique in giant space. There have to be worlds similar to ours and with a similar biological background and evolution, INTELLIGENT life should be possible elsewhere.
If we stand together as a planet, offering friendship to visitors or alien worlds, we should be on the safe side. However, as we know nothing about ET, we cannot predict what other races think and how their minds work.
If they visit us, we could learn from them. The other way round, we could be mentors since the one visiting the other is the technically more advanced.

ad 2: Yes, we should send a message to space. I cannot think of something sensible to send, however.

ad 3: S@H is a great idea to use the collective power of computer users for a good thing. Doing it this way enables us to advance sooner, learn more and evaluate gathered information in a rational amount of time.
