| I strongly hope that contact with an advanced intelligence will unify humanity and help us fulfill our nearly limitless potential. We have it within us to accomplish so much, and yet we struggle endlessly against a nature that compels petty bickering and infighting. The universe is far, far larger than the tiny little planet we fight over. Contributing to SETI helps me feel like I'm a part of that quest to build humanity a better future, even as I begin to lose hope that without outside interference we are doomed to eventually turn this world to barren ash. |
