I picked Einstein as my second project (for mac GPU use) as they were trying to bench mark their credits to SETI. Credit inflation is disingenious.

Sorry to hear of your accident. Never much fun. I don't like making more things subject to licencing though. Too much profit and enforcement/incarceration motive.

Law abiding citizens, abide. so it's pointess to make more rules for them.
People only aware of themselves will likely not be detered from their point of view untill being made aware by every other concious person around them.

As travellers we do need to recognize the right of way is given to the slower traveller and to the one being over taken. IN return slower travellers agree to follow consistent operating methods on well traveled paths. Not walking multiple abreast or moving to single file (standard local side right/left) when alerted to approaching traffic from behind(here the standard is shouting 'trail'). Stepping aside to let faster traffic pass in narrow paths.

Honestly it is far easier for fast bicycle traffic to travel on the road with traffic, some bikers do need to be educated by other riders. Public Service Announcments (PSA's) wouldn't hurt either.

I ride on paths (pavement) when riding leisurely enjoying the scenery, I expect to give way to pedestrians often. When commuting I choose the road, I ride faster (out of both desire and courtesy to cars) and focus on riding in a straight consistant line telegraphing my expected actions and making eye contact with traffic.

BIkes could be licenced and riders tested to do these things but honestly I think people do these things more consistantly when they understand they are a good idea and actually benifit them as bikers.

The more bikes, electric and otherwise I see on the road the better I think we are doing as a society. Again sorry for your accident, but even with every rule imaginable, if something can go wrong, it will. Thats where we hope we've been good people and our friends will help us back up. And remove the offenders battery or short circuit it (lith ion batterys are spectular in this condition)

Guy, completly on point.

msattler, why do you beat up on the new monkeys?

We could all use better information to overcome the propaganda being force fed to us from ALL sides. So when you get the urge to repost the latest sound bite (made for corporate news profit margins) please do us all a favor and do some digging of your own, be (what used to be) a reporter. Go find original sources, find information from more than one angle if possible. Consider that all situations may be falsified, planted or taken out of context.

We may have far more in common if we talk about factual information than sound bites and fear factors.

FWIW even i made a bammaphone ringtone, cause it was funny. She was a star indeed, of the 100th Magnitude. There are many stars in the sky.

No more dependents on the social system......ESCPECIALLY illegals.
No more sucking off the system. You work, you at least TRY to work, or you starve.
Done deal.

And drug testing for all who apply for welfare assistance or food stamps. You don't need to be doing crack on my freaking dime.

Any politician who resists drug testing is just feeding the teet.

I would not wish their situation upon you. I would rather take care of them in a very minimal fashion, even giving them free drugs, to keep them from crossing the line to desperate acts, substantially reducing all of our quality of life by a far greater amount than the money we would spend to provide them assistance.

be careful what you wish for

Understand, it is intentional. Watch where the ultra rich move to or relocacate assets to. there will be other plausible reasons. Planned Obsolesence on a Grand Scale. Be in the "know" or get out of the market and into personal farming with fertile (non gmo) seed. Do keep a month of food on hand in any case.

Any links to good/informative/real news sources for Americans would be greatly appreciated.
7) Message boards : Number crunching : too many RUNNING tasks (Message 1304279)

Multi threading is useful for programs that will not saturate a processor core, so you run 2 light programs on one core. For Seti@home this is not the case. It is written to completly ulitlize a processor core, so you'll want to only have 4 tasks running on a quad core processor. Running 8 will only cause overhead to increase, decreasing actual work.

As for the GPU, you could test to see what it wants from the processor, by clearing your cache, accept only GPU tasks and observe how much cpu is being used by the one GPU task alone. GPU's are generally designed to ONLY handle one task at a time.

On my imac qc i5 i run 4 S@H MB tasks (cpu) and one Einstein@home task on GPU (only uses .5% cpu) so I have no need to throttle S@H

It might seem like an advantage, but the more you split the problem the more overhead there is. You could see a WU process faster by splitting it further, but you would be working on fewer units at a time. You'd still end up with the same RAC, or a little less because of the extra overhead.

I can see a little use for this where you want to get a WU done fast then stop processing for a while. But this project is really set up for a MUCH longer term and that situation does not occur frequently enough to concider due to the overhead involved. Some GPU's already process these WU's too quickly.

In regards to seti@home the problem is already being run on multiple cores in a cluster. That's BOINC. The WU is already a very small portion of the whole problem.

for an example...

time in seconds
total time / cpu time / credit
2,638. / 1,612. / 732.59 AstroPulse v6 (NVIDIA GPU) GeForce GTX 690
520,008. / 452,082. / 732.59 AstroPulse v6 v6.02 (Core2 Duo CPU @ 2.40GHz) macbook 2008
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=1053500772
Isn't 44 miniutes fast enough for a AstroPulse WorkUnit? I'm sure the guy with the macbook thinks so after 5 days.

I havn't seen anyone yet reporting that they got SETI running on a mac gpu, yet. So instead I loaded,

Einstein@home works well on my AMD GPU (1600 RAC) Einstein only uses .5% of one CPU core to keep the GPU happy.

I run SETI on my CPU's 4 cores (4900 RAC last month),

Optimized seti app from http://www.arkayn.us/forum/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=cat4

iMac (mid 2011) i5-2400S CPU @ 2.50GHz (mid 2011) AMD Radeon HD 6750M
57c/135f 2000rpm fans-nice and quiet while using all 4 cores 100%
kinda hard to tell how much of GPU is being used on the mac (anyone got any suggestions?)
