lluminate has completed a digital restoration of the iconic TV series, The X-Files. Retransferred from the camera-original negative, the show’s entire 201 episodes have been reassembled in HD using illuminate’s proprietary iConform technology. All nine seasons of The X-Files have now been released on Netflix.

Well, now the truth about The X-Files reboot is out there thanks to star David Duchovny, or at least what he senses is the truth (these things are always a bit murky). Duchovny stopped by Entertainment Weekly Radio [...] While he has only read one script so far, he provided a good handle on what fans should expect as a whole.

“I know there are only six [episodes] so there’s going to be a mixture of stand alones—what we always called monster of the week episodes—and the mythology,” said Duchovny. “Which is basically what this series always was, which is a mix of those things, and even in this limited version there’s going to be that mix. How many mythology shows? I don’t know. I imagine two or three, but I’m really just speculating—I don’t know. I think we are going to continue on with the mythology as it was, but obviously this is new and we’re going to try and teach an old dog new tricks too so we’ll see. I’m the old dog.”

The X-Files begins production in Vancouver on June 8th according to Production Weekly.

The X-Files will return on Sunday January 24th, 2016 at 10 p.m. with a generous lead-in from the NFL, which hosts its NFC Championship that day. It will be a two-night premiere, with the show airing on Monday night at 8 p.m. in its regular timeslot.

This project, known as the One Earth Message, is being led by Jon Lomberg, who was design director for the "golden records" that were placed aboard NASA's twin Voyager spacecraft before their 1977 launch to teach any aliens that might encounter the probes about humanity and its home planet. The goals of the One Earth Message are similar, but the new project would be a more global and collaborative effort, asking people around the world to contribute images, sounds and ideas for this farflung "message in a bottle."

"This is really a chance to try to think about ourselves from the long perspective," Lomberg told Space.com. "We'll never know if this extraterrestrial audience that we're designing it for will receive it. But we do know that the people of Earth who participate, who play a role in it — it can literally change their lives."
