I'd hate to see what the power bills are for some of our more massive crunchers. 500K RAC doesn't come cheap.

What size and what type of hard drive do you need (EIDE, Serial ATA, SCSI, Serial Attached SCSI, Fiber, SATA 1 2 3,etc.).

For our Hydrogen Array we need specifically http://www.compsource.com/pn/0F12115/Hitachi_196/Deskstar-7k3000-Hds723020bla642-Hard-Drive/ currently QTY 15 of these.

For general transport drives we need either 2 or 3TB SATA drives, preferably 64MB 7200RPM drives. For example:

2TB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148834

3TB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148844

We're always looking for other drives for other roles as well such as when we build servers, replace old server drives, workstation building and so forth, but for the most part the above drives I've linked are always in demand somewhere in the Lab.

If you have any questions about donating hardware please feel free to contact me at brad@gpuug.org anytime. Thanks!

As we have surpassed our goal for the Green Bank Telescope Array, Mr. Kevvy has offered to continue his matching pledge onto our Hydrogen Array Project.

This array has two functions:

1. One portion of the JBOD will provide storage requirements for Dr. Korpela's Hydrogen Survey.

2. The remaining portion will serve as a test bed for on site storage for SETI at Home. Should the on site storage work out like we're hoping, we'll be able to significantly reduce the data storage costs for SETI by a large factor.

Needs: At the time of this post we currently need to fund only 15 2TB drives to finish out this project. The total cost we need to raise is $1675.00 to fund these remaining drives.

You can contribute to this project by visiting:

1. General Pool for our Hydrogen Project http://www.gpuug.org/content/setihome-hydrogen-survey-seti-storage-array-hard-drives

2. Donate a drive itself ($120 per drive) http://www.gpuug.org/content/cash-4-drive-hitachi-gst-deskstar-7k3000-hds723020bla642-2tb

Seriously, you're using JBOD?! If even one disk fails, you lose everything. Use either RAID 1+0, RAID 5 or (my favorite) RAID 6.

Your work units are being served off of a JBOD right now that we built using the same partition system.

How many disk drives is actually needed or what size of data we are talking about? (...ok found 20x2TB :)

20 total for transport for the GBT
16 for Eric's Hydrogen Array

With that said we're always looking for hard drives. Servers, JBOD's, transport, the list goes on. They're always in high demand.
