ouch ... just noticed another wave of inconclusive ... a quick look at the wingmen ... gtx 560 ti ....

Is there a thread where you guys are keeping track of who has been PMed ?

one to add to your list : 9302233 (Murat Adas) PM sent 9pm oct 21

It's "kind of" being tracked in the "Validation Inconclusive" thread. Maybe you could post this in there.

T.A.

Fancy starting up a new thread where we can track folks and try to get them some PC help?

I have to agree with Mark. Stop sending them tasks. It shows up you have what ever GPU card running with such and such driver. Seems it wouldnt be to hard to shut down the rogues turning in junk. I plan on using a 560Ti but not untill I get the new updates from lunatics.( When they resolve the legal issues ) And you can bet I sure will keep an eye on that card also. And as an open invitation if it starts messing up please feel free to PM and tell me.

This issue has been going on know for a while. Now that its been showing up in the new category Hopefully it will get resolved.

It'll have to be a clever system to avoid involuntarily shutting down someone. It'll also need a mechanism to start sending tasks (like we already do w/ # of valids = # of tasks sent) once they get their machine back working properly.

One way it'll need to be clever is for people who do stupid stuff like me. I was testing an Op App that was in Beta and typo'd one component and auto errored out thousands of tasks. While that sucks for everyone involved it wasn't indicative of a broken machine, just a stupid user.

Easiest fix for the 560ti will be Jason's app when it goes live soon.

I had an EVGA 560ti that loved nothing more than to make my life miserable.

Mark you're not making sense here.

Just because someone has an issue with crunching on SETI we should ask them to completely abandon crunching for SETI?

It's impractical to suggest that due to the simple nature of the SETI project's origins we should expect everything to work flawlessly in 2012. Opt aps, hundreds of various GPU's, new forms of work, new drivers, ATI, Nvidia, AMD, Intel, so on and so forth all add to the complexity and thus potential issues.

Some people will have an issue here or there, so let's fix those issues for the betterment of everyone rather than raising the white flag while standing atop a roadblock in the middle of the road to progress.

My point was, Brad........
I do not dismiss the problems involved.
I only invoked the initial promise of the project.
The holy grail, so to speak.

Am I wrong in that?
If thine eye offends thee, then pluck it out.

I see where you're coming from but that's just not practical. It's similar to a web hosting service advertising guaranteed 100% uptime. Almost every one of these companies will experience some downtime at some point. Sometimes the best intentions simply aren't practical.

What we can do here is help these users who are having an issue for whatever reason then move on to more important tasks like enjoying a nice frothy beverage while our machines hum quietly in the background, error free.

That's a good point.

I'm curious to see how many project resources are being allocated to reprocessing invalid/error tasks.

I'll see if I can find anything out about this.

Next up on my list:

699798 (DG71)
8637650 (mamoru@igo-shogi)
9774123 (Nolan)
36267 (Eric Livingston)
285742 (3rik)
7888117 (HalbesHuhn)

My list for this month has now passed 100 (some have already named here) and if this month is like an other lately then I'll likely get another 15-25 (I must say though that I'm getting a better response to PM's now).

Cheers.

Should we set up a 'master list' thread?

I'd really like to help these folks sort out their machines. I would've abandoned SETI crunching all together if a few very smart gents wouldn't have helped me sort out my error/invalid issues.

The more people we can help get their machines up and running the more processing power SETI will have while at the same time reducing our total resources allocated to improperly configured machines.

My only problem with all this crap is that the automagic limiters in the project specifications are not shutting down these rouge rigs.

Crap, if one on my rigs goes of into the woods somehow, don't waste the bandwidth sending it any more freaking tasks.........

Can't the servers get a better handle on this??????

Not sure however several iterations ago the optimization app fixed this issue with 560ti's totally.

The issue is a lot of people probably don't want to install a 'third party' app on their machine for whatever reason which makes me wonder how we can solve the issue on a large scale vs reaching out to one cruncher at a time.

Have the copyright issues with the Lunatics Optimized Apps been resolved? Can't ask 560TI users to upgrade to Opt. Apps. when they are not available to download.

We should have a resolution on that soon. (I know that's vague as heck, sorry)

Folks who I've messaged but are throwing nothing but bad tasks back into the system:

7787994 (Kiswa)
1983609 (Chris)
210476 (Jimmie Stolz) (Some good tasks, but a ton of invalids)
9113935 (adrianozattera) (Some good, lot of bad)
61827 (Robinton Family (N1CRZ, N1TUF, KB1DYD)
9608803 (randythelegend)

I got bored at this point, but good lord there are some folks producing thousands of invalids with no valid work at all.

As per my pledged promise, I have donated $ 142.00 this afternoon to the SETI@Home cause - $ 1.00 per month of my SETI@Home participation. I challenge ALL other active participants to do the same and then continue to do so in the future to keep this important effort going for years to come. Join me in this pledge challenge.

Ah I was wondering what was happening when I saw $142 roll through. Thanks very much! That's the vast majority of a 3TB drive or a new piece of lab hardware.

I think I'll take up a new hobby when I'm bored, "Writing my wingmen with borked machines and inviting them into the NC forum to get sorted out."

I found a dozen folks without trying that were pumping out a ton of tasks, but only maybe a dozen would go valid while 5000+ invalids stacked up.

Don't stress. I've aborted 5000 at least twice and 3000 another time due to sheer stupidity on my part.

We recently received a planning list of projects from SETI. This will keep us busy for likely 6-9 months.

Now all we're waiting on are our beginning specs and we'll get rolling on new projects.

Just a FYI to everyone we've been seeing several nice donations come through the GPUUG for this fundraiser. As a result we'll be remitting a payment to SETI at the end of this week for $2060.94.

If you'd like to donate SETI via the GPUUG using either check, money order, Paypal or a credit card please visit http://www.gpuug.org/donatecash

Thanks sincerely to everyone who supports SETI in whatever capacity you can.

Go to preferences, network connections, click 'clear'

Now set "connect every X days" to 4, and additional work buffer to 0.01.

Click update or let it auto report and let me know what happens.

I had the same issue until Jason and Claggy sorted me out.

1. Go to your Boinc > Preferences > Network Usage > Click "Clear".

2. Now set your "Connect every __ Days" to 4.

3. Set "Additional Work Buffer" to 0.01

4. Click "OK"

Why this works, I have no idea but it worked for me.

Are you keeping your GPU fans cranked up a bit? I tend to leave mine maxed in an over abundance of caution. Temp issues will absolutely cause crashes and comp errors.

Nope, these are quite old. To be more precise some were thought to have been formed around 1200 years ago.

Caddo Mounds site, a Texas Historical Commission property, located in Cherokee County, west of Nacogdoches?

Edit, added: To be exact, it is what's called Mound A, at the Caddo Mounds site.

Correct in every detail. You're up!
