put some credit on so I can post.

I'm so saddened to hear of john's passing.
He was a wonderful and unique character.

He will be missed.

Well this person is being sent CUDA 42 tasks to his 8600 GTS by Boinc.
They are almost all turning into inconclusives.
I thought CUDA 42 was for Fermi cards and Boinc should be sending CUDA23 or CUDA 32 WUs to cards like this.
Then again it could be the amount of VRAM in this older card which is causing the problem . Either way, it doesn't look like its this USERS fault that his WUs are erroring.

With 41zc,running 2 WUs on my 660ti,it worked out roughly 700 seconds = @100 toaster points.
Now running 1 V7 WU, 700 seconds = @35 toaster points.

Way Way down. 200/35= about 17.5% credit for the same time it takes to complete.
If I had just run 1 WU using 41zc ,the 700 seconds would have dropped to about 500 seconds which would work out at 140/35 = 25% credit for the same WU.

(if my adding up etc is correct ?)

I'm not really blaming anybody.
I just feel that if you sign up to a project, you must have some interest in it to begin with,or you wouldn't do it.
When people first join a project,I'm sure they have at least a quick look at the message boards,to get a rough idea of whats going on in the project before they sign up to it(I know I did,and I'm sure I'm not unique).

Sorry Mike,I'm trying to think of the right way to word this, but I haven't really slept(due to work) for a few days.

I'll answer properly tomorrow afternoon (day off).

The short answer is, that this ( and every other project) needs valid ,correct results or it's pointless doing it.Especially when you get computers with massive amounts of errors/invalids validating with other error producing computers.
Bed time !!!! :)

I got home from work today to find I had 20 validation inconclusives.
I was devistated, and had a look as to who I was inconclusive with.
I have PMd some people recently , and they have been actually rather pleased that I had got in touch and they could sort their computers out.
I give up when a Core2 with a 9600GT can recieve 4532WUs.

The other two today are just as bad, with errors and inconclusives.

I feel Wiggo's frustration.

I know this project is supposed to be "set and forget", but I can't understand why people would sign up to something they obviously have no interest in.

I personally worry about nothing Chris,as that only affects me ,but i think as a species (one of countless millions over the history of life on earth) we should ,with our knowledge of what can happen and what has happened in the past leading to extinction on a massive scale, and also with our technilogical ability to do something about ensuring we are not next, make all efforts to stop such a catastrophy.

It would be easy to say (as quite a few people believe),that if we took the money we spent on war amongst nations, then we could use that money to further science ,and use it for the good of Humanity.
In reality science has quite often only been furthered and expanded upon because of war and the funding that comes with it.In times of peace (not that we've had much over the last couple of hundred years),there is no need to find better explosives, design new propulsion systems,or as it seems at this moment in time actually go into space. The chances of funding coming together to find a solution to an asteroid threat (or any other threat to humanity such as deforestation, global warming,or the mass extinction of biodiversity which is happening at this moment in time) is pretty slim.

The people with the purse strings in this world have Gone Fishing.

I wouldn't worry about those 5, as they were probably caused by your changeover to opt apps, and are over and done with now.
The other two from today I'll let Claggy or someone else sort out.
Its the weekend, so you might have to wait until someone comes along (but you never know).
It must be late now where you are, I wouldnt loose any sleep over it.( it's not like you are cracking out hundreds of errors like I did !!) :)

Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I would hate to give you the wrong advice and mess things up further.

Your the expert, compared to most crunchers, but would it be cost effective to replace your ( I can hardly say it ! ) erm older power hungry cards with newer more electrically efficient ones.
Basically getting rid of the 580s and 295s and replacing them with 6XX series or when they are finally abundant ,7XX series cards.
I know it would cost a bit , but would probably pay for itself with reduced electricity bills.

Just a thought, I would crap myself if I got bills like yours !!!! :)

Another 2 errors,( one optimised, the other not )
You seem to have doubled up on the CPU part of your APP INFO.

Read Floyds thread,Claggy goes into a bit of detail about it,it may help you , and other people too, by not having to repeat thereself in such a short space of time. :)

Hope that helps !!

john3760

p.s. the other AP errors were probably just still in your cache when you changed to optimised,as they all errored out at the same time with 0.00 seconds.

I don't suppose they could just narrow their field of research to wherever it can still point to and get data, and do more extensive research on a smaller area of the sky.

Kepler could still be useful even in its crippled state.
Just a thought ( probably totally wrong ). :)

You would still be left with two CPU apps,I had the same problem and had a couple of goes at deleting before I got mine to work.( in the process I became " brighter than an idiot" from " unadvanced user" ;)

The read me files do state advanced user, but reading them properly and a bit of advice from people on this message board ( thanks again, you know who you are !!! ) and most people should be able to do it.
