11) Message boards : Science (non-SETI) : How do you measure time in space? (Message 1508848)
Posted 96 days ago by Profile Michel448a
In the absence of Gravity the clock would not run at the same time. Regardless of the form of the clock.

What do you all think ??

"or same speed"
that's exactly what i think

time is passing everywhere, every circumstances, at same pace.(only the clocks devices arent as accurate)

i think nobody proved the speed of light dilation yet, no (it s ONLY a theory)

another million of debris(junk) again, now on the far side of the moon.

They need to stop to polute the space with their Junk :S
at least send your dead bodies to the sun so it can be recycled

I would like to see them find a truly Earth like planet

truly Earth like planets have a 300-400 days rotations around their sun. you need data on a 5+ years periods

EDIT* : truly Earth like planets have a 300-400 days rotations around a* sun* like*. you need data on a 5+ years periods

added some * * * to better show what i should have said

an earth like planet turning around a red dwarf in 10-60days cause the goldilock zone need to be so close of the star ... IS NOT* a truly* earth like condition to harbour life like we know here.
not in my mind

for me we need a sun very similar of our sun, which has a good zone about same area as we have, with a planet in middle of that zone
and making the turn in between of 300 to 400 days

Furthermore, our system of arithmetic (algebra) is not 100% consistent--it must appeal to outside influences to prove every true theorem within the mathematical system.

Is algebra linked to our decimal system ? What would happends to these formuleas if we would work on a system that use '8' or '12' or '14' as base ? would still work right ?

we are maybe the only ones in the universe who 'invented' these radio-waves transmitters and 'invented' these decimal "prime numbers'

maybe there are no aliens with only 10 fingers :P

Now you're only speaking of the gravitational microlensing technique:)

[edit] The Doppler technique, excuse me. Not possible for earth like planets unfortunately...

none of our planets can make the sun move in order to get a doppler effect.
mercury venus earth mars are too small, jupiter saturn uranus are too far.

i m talking transit

i am pretty sure if we would be at 2,000 light years from here and try to find an exoplanet here , we wouldnt find nor the earth, but also wouldnt find Jupiter nor Saturn.

Why i think that ?

cause the earth does a 365 days revolution. and Jupiter 12 years and Saturn 29 years.

you need to find a dim change of light from our Sun every 365days or 12years/ 29years

we need datas over a 100years period of all stars of our galaxy.
we would be already dead by then ^^

it s not our job.

Who's job is it then??

How about Seti Institute?

i dunno but the only thing i know, we only search for Spikes/Gaussians/Triplets/Pulses and we send the numbers we found for writting in the Database.

and after the Workunit files are deleted by bruno and/or georgem servers.

thats all.

The problem is that there simply isn't enough time or staff on the Seti lab team to do that. Matt is the only one that gives the technical reports and he only works part time there now. Eric is too busy writing papers for funding to keep the show on the road, and Jeff and the others are busy making what does happen, happen.

in my book, writing a paper for funding takes like 30mins. maybe 60mins ? in a year ?

Therehave been suggestions before that the Seti team should simply stop collecting any more data, and concentrate all their efforts upon analysing the data so far gathered.

/agree but which data ?
number of Spikes/Gaussians/Triplets/Pulses ?

i have a question for Mr. Kevvy

Do you think they still have ALL the original files they got so far ?
And how many Terabytes / Hard drives they have stocked in a closet or somewhere, filled with all the beams/data we got from the observatory?

Is there a closet filled with hundreds and hundreds of harddrives ?

our job is :

1- Crunch these WUs
2- transmit the results (Spike/Gaussian/Pulse/Triplet)

then the server do :

3- verify if we have 2x same results
4- put these results (Spike/Gaussian/Pulse/Triplet) into a point grid (database)
5- deletes these WUs

then the crew do :

6- switch harddrive when they are done and put a new one
7- format these harddrives and resend to be filled again with new data.

nobody keep all these WUs, only the results (Spike/Gaussian/Pulse/Triplet) are kept into a database.
Nobody check the WUs if there was really a signal and try to decrypt/verify if there was an alien transmission or from earth. it s not our job.

Am I wrong ??

the only plug in i have is flash player and avast. and it s not all her links, only the one she put 1 or 2 'enter' Inside, in middle of her link.

Update:

it gives me problems, but if you delete the 2 'enter like this :

i dont have problems anymore.

or i need to quote and copy paste
or i need to reload the page in the old 'compatibility mode'
