Post: Its been a very long time that I could not try anything with the Vega FE card that I could. Finally over the weekend I tried everything that was suggested, and also tried installing on another motherboard GA-990XA-UD3 with the latest F14e BIOS but all I am getting is unknown AMD hardware. I am just not able to install the drivers for this card and I am getting very frustrated. Anyone who had similar issues and was able to solve it? |

Post: Try installing it in "Safe Mode" I could install the driver in the Safe Mode through the device manager. But after restarting, the PC went into an endless BSOD - restart loop. Had to get back into safe mode and remove the driver. Now I am trying to search for a possible solution to this issue :( . Hope someone out there has a solution. Edit: The issue is caused by atimkdag.sys file |

Post: I finally got the Vega Frontier edition GPU but seem to have run into a roadblock. I am unable to install the driver (latest version). It always give me BSOD part way through the installation. All previous drivers have been uninstalled. I read somewhere that it could be due to the HBM2 incompatibility with the motherboard. I am running Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 Rev 1.0 with the latest BIOS. Couple of other motherboards I have are also either the same category or older. What could be the issue here? It will be a real bummer if I have to shell out more for newer mobo, processor and RAM. |

Post: Heatkiller seems like a good alternative to EK. I will still try to see how good the card performs with the built in air cooler first. I have never tried running more than one equipment with water cooling at a time so just to get more info... can two or more GPUs be connected in series to a single cooling system? How will the temperatures be on the last card on the loop? Or is there any option to do a parallel connection for all the GPUs. Wont the pump also need to be of higher capacity to handle the excess tubing? |

Post: Thanks for the info. I shall check the performance once I get my hands on the card. I did come across a site that has custom liquid cooling blocks for the vega cards, but these would be for later if I am not able to get a proper cooling with the standard cooler it comes with. I could not find any air cooled solutions yet. |

I was wondering if there is any aftermarket coolers available for this card. I could not find any tangible results through google. Has anyone any experience using this for crunching? |

Post: I am still using just plain old Vaseline. Cheap, doesn't evaporate, just use enough to make the IHS barely sticky, never had a problem on any of my crunchers. Fills those micro hills and valleys and doesn't get in the way of the metal-to-metal contact. Never have had to redo it, either. Cheap (like me), too. I wasn't aware Vaseline had such a use. We learn something new everyday :) ... but I don't think I will use Vaseline over a good thermal paste. |

Post: Is there any specific brand of pci-e riser that is good to use, or can any unbranded model ok for use? On several forums I have read how the bad soldering on these risers have blown the motherboards or the GPUs. Even the Thermaltake ones have received bad reviews on Amazon. Also, is there any limitation on how long these can be? I came across this site indicating various lengths. Many sites gave good review for 3M Riser cables from Digikey, but the costs are exorbitant compared to the others for both 25cm and 50 cm length. ______________

Post: I have been in search of good and bright spotlight since the last one I had went kaput. My searches led me to a page on Vector Sportspot VEC 192. This design is perfect for me to use on the farm at night, and the additional LED on the handle would be really useful. The bad part is, that nowhere can I find one to purchase. The closest I could find was the Cyclops C18MIL Thor X Colossus, which is a humongous piece of hardware. I have tested a few others that boast 25 and 40 million candle power but are much dimmer than the one I had which was only rated 15 million. Would anyone have information on where I can get the VEC192? Another spotlight mentioned on the same page Vector SLH100P also seems not available. Any help would be appreciated. |

Post: My main PC runs Bitdefender Internet Security, which I have been using since 2009 without any issues. However, since my seti rigs are 24/7 crunchers and not used for anything else, I didn't see the need for such a high end (?) antivirus for it. I am yet to test Nanopro. In the meanwhile, I have been checking the rig with the issue and have come to the conclusion that AVG web tuneup is the culprit behind all my troubles. It creates a shadow copy of all the other files on the PC thereby sucking up the available disk space. Quick google search has corroborated this. I remember not selecting this feature of AVG during install, but I guess a latest update might have installed it. The solution is to uninstall the AVG web tuneup. Then manually delete everything under AppData\Local\Packages\windows_ie_ac_001. I gained 33GB on my second rig by doing this and things are now back to normal. AVG seems to be running ok too. I wonder why AVG isn't doing anything about this, given the number of complaints about it on their forum. |

I have looked up PCMatic and the lifetime license for $150 looks tempting, but they do have a free version which I will test on one of my rigs. I have also checked ClamAV, but since it doesnt have a real time scanner, I will exclude it as well. I also came across NanoPro, might give it a try in a spare PC. Edit: I did a quick search about PCMatic and came up with loads of negative reviews about it. This Amazon review page has given a pretty clear picture of what this software is. So this too is off my list. |

Post: Recently I have noticed my crunching rigs running out of space and giving me the 'not enough memory' messages. Upon inspection, I found that AVG antivirus has been filling up my hard drives. The empty space that I gained by deleting temp files would again be filled up by AVG. In the end I decided to uninstall it on one rig, which unfortunately, caused the entire WU cache to error out and the project had to be reinitialized. Now it is back to crunching again, however, 503 WUs were trashed. This rig doesn't have any antivirus on it now, and I am not very keen to use AVG again, even though my AVG license is still valid for another year.. My question is, should I really install another antivirus or just let it be? If yes, are they any good business edition ones? Free ones would be better as I would like to try them out first. Is Avast recommended? |

Post: I have been following this thread since long. Never built a super cruncher, however, here are my rigs.    I am still in the process of building my 3rd rig. So far, it is just a CPU cruncher. Got the motherboard cheap on ebay so I could reuse my old CPU. GPUs will need to wait till I have the budget. Currently uses an old Radeon X1300 since there is no onboard video.  The second card on my main rig GTX 285 gave out a couple of months back. These were the very first GPU that I purchased way back in 2009. Rigs 1, 2 & 3 are controlled through this via VNC.  ______________
