1) Message boards : Number crunching : Reached my max RAC (Message 1504843)
Posted 4 days ago by Profile Michael W.F. Miles
I have gone to nothing but Astropulse on my Phenom 2 1100T and my Zotac 460 768
I have been trying to get a max RAC to understand how high it might be possible to go.

I run 5 cpu tasks and 1 gpu task at a time.
25280 seems to be it as long as they get validated quick enough.
Not bad for one little machine.

The credit system needs a revamp.
Those are just my observations

AP splitters have come online.
Hope the AP work starts again.
The feeding frenzy starts, I hope

The server hosting the Astropulse database crashed. The database is okay, and we have a replacement machine, but it may be 1-2 weeks before Astropulse is back on line. We are still serving regular (multibeam) workunits in the meantime.

Thank you for the solid answer

The real pisser is seeing a lot of channels loaded and not knowing why work is not being sent.
We were not told until now of why this is going on
As to hoarding AP work my 200 limit is 5 minutes away from my last WU completing then the well runs dry.

I have no interest in other projects at all.
Thanks for at least telling what is wrong......

I sure hope AP comes on line
Fully expected it back up after the outage
This is a waste of volunteers time

Don't retry too often. Remember that modern BOINC clients don't request new work while uploads are 'active' (i.e. after retry, and before failure).

It would be very nice just to get some AP work
All weekend no AP downloads

Now the AP DB is back up but splitters are down.
Getting very low on work.

That the science database is down doesn't really matter to us crunchers, it just means there is a backlog of completed AP Workunits waiting for assimilation, and it'll grow as more results are validated.

Claggy

Just curious as to why no work is reaching us when so many are being split and channels ending in error?

That is what I guess too. It was exciting though. LOL

I'm not sure why but I did get 1 AP task at 2.00 am and 2 AP tasks at 9:30 am
BC Canada time

The Astropulse Science DB was still disabled at the time of the downloads.

Thank god I got 120 tasks Friday.
As it is I can crunch AP for 2 days max then totally dry. About 40 hours
Right now I have 74 total and 29 of those are 601 CPU tasks

Please turn on the Science database so we can get our cache filled if that is the only problem.
Are the tapes that were loaded any good?
Seems like a awful waste of data

Every channel is ending in error

84 AP so far
Nuts

Work for AP is still a no go.
Very frustrating to see that channels are being done but no work is being sent.

So much for this run

Disabled Database

Yes I see that.

I knew it was a weird day when I woke up to snow in Victoria BC.
Rare event indeed

I see that there is work for AP but no work has come this way all day.
The run will be over without a lot of machines getting work.

So far I am seeing shorter run times.
Not by much but definite shorter run times.
I was running SSE r2083 CPU and it was averaging 40000 sec on a 0% blanked task
Now with r2148 AMD SSE3 CPU I am seeing 36000 sec on a comparable 0% blanked task.

Will keep testing to make sure these observations are correct.

Says 45.34 GFLOPS here, http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/host_app_versions.php?hostid=6339101
The other day when I made that first post I believe it was around 44.

I know my APR is 45 gflops but my bench test for this cpu is 3054.12 million ops/sec
So that is 4 billion.

It's very confusing that is for sure.

I put the extra 0 in to make it 45 billion so we what the estimates show
At 4 billion the estimate was dead on at 11 hours which is the time it takes in reality.
I will keep on it.
Question: After I get enough valid tasks in do I then remove the flops entry?

Thanks very much TBar

You can quickly fix it by adding a FLOPS entry into the app_info file. You must be careful though, too high a value will result in too short an estimated runtime. This will cause any work in progress to exit with a time exceeded error. An approximate value would be around 40000000000, you would enter it as such;
<app_version>
<app_name>astropulse_v6</app_name>
<version_num>602</version_num>
<flops>40000000000</flops>
<file_ref>
<file_name>ap_6.02r561_OSX64</file_name>
<main_program/>
It would probably be a good idea to remove one of the zeros on the first attempt if you have any work in progress.
You might want to fine tune the number based on what is displayed in the Remaining (estimated) column after restart. A higher number will give a lower estimated time.

I got tried of waiting for the system to level this out so I put in 4 billion on the FLOPS estimate and all tasks that were still in my cache went up to 165 hours from 161. All new arrivals are being estimated at 11 hours as it should be

The above example is showing 40 billion and my floating point speed on my 1100T
Boinc tells me my floating point speed is estimated at 3054.12 million ops/sec so I put in 4000000000

I hope my cache fills up before they shut down the splitters for AP for the week
