Well, this is goodbye to SETI time for me. Since the piece of crap that is v8 was released, it has become too much work to try to have a stable environment. Good luck to everyone, it's been fun.

First of all, I apologize if this has been asked and answered already. But last weekend, I updated my v8 stock app to the Lunatics enhanced app. No problems (I think) there. However, I have noticed that my number of Invalid results has skyrocketed, most noticeably on machine 7359113. When I go to look at a task to try to determine whats going on, all I see is "No Such Task". So I'm somewhat confused. Any thoughts are appreciated

Matt's update was fine, and that's really all we can hope for. The issue is finding the update. It is extremely difficult to find a specific post in a specific thread on a specific subject. If Matt's update were on the home page, then people would learn to go to that specific location for the most current update. The exact same amount of time would bre required, only the location of the update changes

To say that would create more complaints is in my opinion silly. It is the uncertainty that I believe creates more issues. If the updates are to be kept in the discussion forums, then create a category that ONLY the admins can post to. No comments, no nuthin posted there by anyone else

Which is close to what the Technical News forum is designed for, and I for one would welcome Matt's resumption of a narrative there. TN allows a degree of interactivity, which I think is useful - there have been times when the Q & A dialog following an initial 'news' post has been even more informative than the opening item. But I must confess I'm less enthusiastic about the incontinent outpourings of 'thank you' that follow any new thread. And as for posters that hit the top link on any random page for their outpourings - yet again, 'read before you post', guys.

I concede your point on the interactivity part of the threads. I also fully agree with 'read before you post' (wish I could say I've never made that mistake before). Guess all I'm saying is I wish there were some consistency on how this type of information is distributed. To use your example of the Technical News forum, fine...go for it. But then dont post the update next time in Number Crunching, or some other topic. Ok, been a long day and we can beat this subject to death to no resolution . Thanks for spending the time to shoot this around

And it was 3:30am all day yesterday ? This issue has been building the past few days. Easily time enough for someone to at least begin studying the issue and put out a status. Again, all we hear is crickets. And don't even start about how this is a holiday week. When people are out, you arrange to have coverage.

Got what I hope is a fairly straight forward question. Over the last week or so, I've noticed the RAC on my account auguring straight in toward Mother Earth. Not a normal dip, but a case of "We're going in !" So I looked at my account. I see a total of 1468 tasks In Progress, of which 578 are Validation Pending (this seems very excessive to me), 181 Validation Pending (also high ?), 287 Valid, with 79 Invalid and 6 Error.

I'm not familiar enough with what exactly those terms indicate, and frankly don't look often enough to see if these numbers seem normal or not. My main cruncher is an old i7 920 with two 460 SE's doing the GPU tasks, so not exactly state of the art.

Any help explaining the terms might give me a clue as to where to look for any errors, in they event they exist.

Much appreciated

Good luck to everyone on the project, I appreciate all the help and advice you've provided through the years. This v7 fiasco, and it is a huge fiasco, is a wake up call that it's time to actually do something useful with my PC, and save some electricity/money in the process.

I hope you guys and gals find something out there

pilot appears to have slightly pulled back on the stick, what was about a 75 degree dive is now roughly 60. Que is full of AP's, only a few 6.03's. Holding onto the rungs of the ladder with both hands. I hope the Lunatics site is ready for the slamming it will take when the new apps are out

Update....I was wrong.....now in full fledged free fall again

I happened to look on the Home page yesterday morning. No information about v7 being pushed out. Yes, I saw the notification that 7 was available, but NOWHERE did it state that the upgrade was required. Now I find that v7 was deployed to my machine without my consent. NOT COOL. No one should EVER allow software to be installed/upgraded without an explicit approval. This may be a deal breaker for me, that the admins running this project would once again make a huge change and then beg for forgiveness after the fact.

I'm probably missing something somewhere, but has anyone from the project made any sort of statement or whether the ongoing issues are even being looked at? I can't find anything. Nothing on the home page, which would take someone like two minutes to post. Or anything on the 'News' board. Another two minutes. Tops. If it's there, I can't find it. The appearance is that the staff has buried their heads in the sand. And in the middle of the fund raising drive, that's a dangerous appearance. I increased my donation this year and was planing to add to that in December. Very much questioning that now. I'm not expecting miracles, I realize they have major constraints. But the silence is deafening

One more minor piece of information:

I have a few results that are returning the following

<core_client_version>6.10.60</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<stderr_txt>
Cuda error 'Couldn't get cuda device count
' in file 'c:/[Projects]/X_CudaMB/client/cuda/cudaAcceleration.cu' in line 146 : no CUDA-capable device is detected.
setiathome_CUDA: cudaGetDeviceCount() call failed.
setiathome_CUDA: No CUDA devices found
setiathome_CUDA: Found 0 CUDA device(s):
In cudaAcc_initializeDevice(): Boinc passed DevPref 2
setiathome_CUDA: CUDA Device 2 specified, checking...
Device cannot be used

Cuda error 'Couldn't get cuda device count

setiathome_CUDA: cudaGetDeviceCount() call failed.
setiathome_CUDA: No CUDA devices found
setiathome_CUDA: Found 0 CUDA device(s):

So it looks like there have been a very few work units, it appears mostly today, that for some reason that have not seen/used the GPU. I made two changes to my machine today, number one upgrading the Nvidia driver, and number two being I installed Boinc Tasks on my primary cruncher. That has been removed. If I see many more tasks not recognize CUDA, I will roll back the video driver.

Again, thank you everyone for your suggestions

Scott

I just updated to this version of the Nvidia driver this morning, to resolve a totally different issue. To be honest I don't remember the previous version number (could have been 285.62). I have turned off 'Sleep' for the monitor to be safe though, will start manually turning the thing off.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Good Morning,

Relative SETI noob here, writing to pick your collective brains.

My main crunching machine seems to have taken a RAC dump in the past couple of weeks (yes, I know it's not about the RAC, but it IS an indicator of possible issues).
Total RAC was at 43400 on April 25, now at 38k+ and falling fast, especially in the past 10 days.

Overview of main cruncher, my other two are minor

Does this look like there is an issue on my end ? Or just a cyclical down tic, although I can't remember anything this extreme before without there being an outage of some type.

Timing is close to the date of Windows updates (May 10), was looking at doing a system restore to a prior date

Thoughts appreciated, and I'll be glad to supply any additional info as needed.

Thanks much
Scott

Is it me, or is there a period of time every year (maybe over a two or three week period) where everything just seems to go TU ? Rest of the year is pretty stable.
