1) Questions and Answers : Windows : Team Founder (Message 447972)

And get this.... The team founder gets an email saying someone want to force a transfer "click here". but.. you go to the site and there is no place to stop it, no where is there a place to click and remain founder.

You can deny them by following the link in the email you got. There's a deny button there.
You can also do this through the "Change team founder" option in Team Management.

Anyway, they can only ask once every 3 months.
And any take-over will take 2 months if the email goes unanswered (aka, no denial).

Thanks, Jord
There was no "Deny" button anywhere we saw as of this morning (11-1-2006).

This was a new thing? to force a takeover?
I got to believe few founders are going to like the idea of anyone doing these takeovers, especially teams with large number of users. If there is to be a founder transfer it should be the founder doing in team functions. Cuts out all the silliness and goofing off otherwise. Nothing to stop anyone from joining a team and then attempt a takeover. Sure leader can monkey around and try to stop, but who wants all that?

Just my 2 cents.

... In a next version, there is an option to initiate a team founder transfer. You could wait for that one and try it. It isn't implemented yet ...

A spam feature, which forces the team founders to take action, a really sick implementation without much thinking about the consequences behind it.

I wonder which loonie had this idea :-(

I agree. A couple on my team were playing today and found the place to click to force a transfer. Anyone who is anyone can join a team and click on that transfer. And get this.... The team founder gets an email saying someone wants to force a transfer "click here". but.. you go to the site and there is no place to stop it, no where is there a place to click and remain founder.
Someone should start fixing the real problems instead of creating unecessary ones.
And I have really tried hard to stay on the positive side of all the problems and whining on these boards recently. But if my founder has to constantly be fighting off needless coups for our team I am not sure what we will do.
3) Questions and Answers : Windows : BOINC reboots computer regularly (Message 444352)

Just for grins, I'd try unplugging your network cable and see if it reboots when work unit is done. Assuming it doesn't reboot, that gives you the opportunity to be there when you plug cable back in and it connects. I had one machine that did something similar but it was always at the time BOINC did it's daily automatic benchmark tests. Also mine just locked up not reboot.
Of all the clients I have, the ones with Symantec are the biggest head scratchers. I hate that application, such a hog and swings the pendulum the other direction to being to locked down. I'd temporarily shut that down and see how the connection goes. I think you can tell it to just disable until next reboot.
If you have a Dell or HP, do you have any of their preloaded "security" software running? I have one user with a new HP with fingerprint reader (we don't use) but it is a pain in the gluteus maximus.

4) Questions and Answers : Windows : crossed up? (Message 440279)

I'm going to be lazy and ask here.. What is "cross-project stats"?
I see mine are crossed with one of all things "Knights who say Ni", will I be sent on a hunt for a shrubbery? I know of no one in those groups. I have no Elderberry wine, dad drank it all. I don't have any coconuts to bang together either. Will that help me find intelligence on another world? :) Sure would be groovy if that was the case!

Think how much science might have been done if the software worked right.

Wow!! What a comment! You have the gall to accuse people here with the "attitude"!!??? Also in other posts you accuse others of initiating flames!!?? Perhaps you should step back and read your own posts before submitting. You are a 30 year IT professional? I certainly doubt that, I have that kind of experience in IT support, you speak of no professionalism. You have threatened to leave, why do you continue to dog everyone that are trying to make things better here? It's always easier to be negative. I do not know any of the volunteers here but they have always been nothing less than very helpful and should be commended for their dedication. I'll be the first to admit BONIC was not the easiest to grasp, but for a person of your touted skill it should have been no harder than it was for me. BONIC has always worked as advertised for all of my machines, my son's and other friends. Ozzfan, Ageless, Pooh Bear 27, KB7R2F, Aurora Borealis (to name a few) have always bent over backwards to explain things and I feel they do an excellent job. I suggest you get in contact with the programmers for BOINC and inject your wisdom to make everything perfect for you. But then what? You are happy and then the 100,000's of other users that it is working for now have something they can't use.
This is my only comment, You are not going to drag me down to your level with a flame throwing contest.

i would like a speed control i would run boinc at 85 or 90% just to make computer just a bit faster and it would really help when i play a game

It may not make games more responsive. If your game needs lots of L2 cache and SETI is using the cache 85-90% of the time, that means your game only gets the cache 10-15% of the time - and all that time needed to flush the cache and reload it with the proper data is what takes time.

The best way to play games, a guy once told me (and I heartily agree), is to suspend or exit BOINC!

Sorry Ozzfan. You always have great advice and never steered anyone wrong. well... This one time I disagree with you. There is a perfectly good reason to be able to throttle down on the 100% processor usage. Running BONIC on a laptop is a heat nightmare. I'd rather have it use less for those situations. So far I have ried with Toshiba and HP laptops, the HP is terrible the Toshiba is livable but fans are always on and they are not quiet. 100% usage on my desktops are OK.
7) Questions and Answers : Windows : screen "shudder" when BOINC/SETI active - BIG problem (Message 422951)

I am not clear on how the graphics card, old tho' it is, is causing my browser and other applications to suddenly scroll up/down even when I am NOT running the SETI screen saver. If I were, I could maybe see that SETI was too much for it to handle at the same time. But I have not used since that first attempt, when I found the graphics of the SETI stuff way to poor quality to read. But thanks for thinking about it.

It's not that you have graphics from BONIC on the screen. I too have many older cards, mine are older in fact than the powerful 16MB you use. I found that going into BIOS and disabling "VGA Pallette snoop" (I think that's what it was called, cured one problem. On a Dell machine there was a different setting for VGA graphics to "use above 16 megs are for video", again not true quotes but the idea is there. If video is using areas of RAM is this the possible cause? I have only seen this behavior on a Dell and a Acer.

Thanks, but that doesn't do a thing. Pretend you DON'T have an account. No where is there an obvious place to go and sign up. I clicked on every link on those pages, all a person does is get caught up in a bunch of circular links each page pointing to the previous. Even a well trained rat couldn't easily get out of this. A web site shouldn't be this difficult to navigate. The link for "My account" requires you to login, but if you don't have an account yet you can't, and there is no place there to go to start! BOINC links are no good, they too assume you have an account.
I found how to sign up via a link on PBS or Discovery channel site, but I'll be switched if I can remember where that is either!!
I can see where SETI is making things so frustrating new volunteers will turn away and say it's not worth it, I may stop myself. My son and his friends saw a show on SETI and thought it would be a neat project, but the honeymoon is coming to an end in a hurry.

How can we create a new user ID. I obviously stumbled on it somewhere a long time ago, but now when trying to help someone I can't get it. BOINC is waiting for a email address and password used at seti at home, but NO WHERE at seti web site is it apparant what to do to sign up!! I want them to use their own account not mine.
To say this is more frustration than what it's worth is an understatement. You'd think if they want volunteers it'd be far more idiot proof. That or it is idiot proof until I came along and dug the bottom a bit deeper.
I can not see any way to create an account for seti from the BOINC app, the account must be created first. BOINC is no help either.
