Just wondering how much BOINC degrades CPU performance over time, if at all, seeing as I run BOINC at 100% CPU 24/7. I'm running an E6750 OC'd to 3.2GHz.

it helps but yet it doesnt help. if you have your computer on all the time it keeps it from having power surges when u turn it on and off. but since you are running at 100% it makes the cpu run hotter which will burn transistors out a little bit faster but by the time it makes a big differance your computer is out of date anyway. plus as long as your computer is on it will burn out transitors in the cpu from normal where and tear that is why your computer is slower after a couple months or even years. it is realy only worth turning off your computer (because of the power surges when u turn it on and off) if you use it once a week or less. hope this helps

Matt has been re-configuring the servers and network at Berkeley over the last week or so. I preparation for something, he will announce when he can, poss next week.

So you might be trying to connect with old DNS settings.
Try rebooting modem or equivalent.
Same with router if you have one.
Stop/ start BOINC,
Reboot computer

Open command window if using Windows,
type in ipconfig /flushdns [return]
ipconfig /registerdns [return]
close window

Any or some or all may be required to reconnect to the mothership. And if Matt plays some more maybe it will have to be repeated.

For more info see tech news, staff blogs message boards.

Andy

restarted computer and it worked fine i don't know y i didn't do it earlyer
just goes to show "when in dout rebout"

donate to seti

LOL - can't disagree with that sentiment, but Astro is bang on with his recommendations. I've been looking at adding more rigs cheaply and came up with a very similar spec.

But we should consider ading to the coffers at Berkeley, else there may be nothing to crunch!

Steve.

there is a person in a thread i started that said they would be willing to give a server to seti and eric is looking into it. it is on page 2 under donate hardware

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting Newegg.

We are sorry but we are not able to donate sever. We are just a reseller. Newegg presently does not quote prices nor are prices negotiable. All of our most current pricing and inventory are posted on our website in a "real-time" format. Prices are non-negotiable. If you would like to obtain a quote, you will simply need to add all of the desired products to your virtual shopping cart (shipping and handling charges are also configured here in addition to shipping methods) and you will have the option to print out that page for your records. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know.

Sincerely,

Nancy Yang
