Quick Question: Why does it take so long to process certain jobs? I have 5 jobs still in the pending status going back to mid-February and more than a dozen still pending from the first week of March, and yet some of the jobs that were completed only last week have already been processed.

There does not seem to be any visible logic to how the process works. Please advise...

Am I right in assuming that this server failure has also had a ripple effect on other parts of the system? I have more than a dozen completed jobs waiting/pending upload (most of them are not Astropulse jobs), and I have several dozen completed jobs (pending credit) which do not appear to be progressing towards validation.

Would you please post additional updates with respect to what other features/functions have been impacted by this server failure?

Do these recent problems have anything to do with what seems to be an ever-increasing delay in the awarding of processed credits? Over the past few weeks, I've seen the average pending credits on my projects nearly double, from an average of 1900-2200 credits a day pending to more than 5400 pending as of this morning. Over the past month or so, I've also noted that credits pending for Astropulse jobs are taking two to three times longer to be awarded than those for the other data sets.

It would appear that uploading is not the only problem.

I noted this morning that the Knights..., BoincStats, Combined Stats, etc. have not updated their result credit totals since 4/10. I've accrued nearly 5000 credits since their last update, and after three days, the rankings are completely inaccurate (or more-so now than normal).

I have also experienced some downloading problems over the past week. Some of these downloads continually retried for up to 2 days, before I finally aborted them. Once the problem downloads were aborted however, the project managed to kick off new download requests which were successful. I had to abort about a half-dozen jobs on two different computers between 4/7 and 4/11.

In the past 24 hours, uploading and downloading problems seem to have been resolved, but I can't help wondering if these problems with Kryten might also (still) be creating the problems noted with the stat aggregation folks.(?)

Ozz -- you've posted a number of replies to this particular issue under multiple threads. You defend BOINC while acknowledging the preferences issue, yet you offer no assistance or useful advice to others on how to remedy the problem. If you know how to fix this problem, why don't you say so. If you're not having this problem yourself, please don't assume that it is not a real problem for others, and if you don't know how to fix it, why bother to post a reply at all?

I know how long this project has been running and I know how many hundreds of thousand of systems are crunching away at the data every day, but that doesn't mean the BOINC software doesn't have problem.

I'm running the very latest version (5.4.11 BOINC), and even after repeated installations, it simply refuses to run based on the preferences I've set, and there are a lot of other users making these same complaints. I've set my preferences (and SAVED and UPDATED) repeatedly. I want the processes idle when I'm working, with a delay of 5 minutes after no activity, but the process continues to run continously 24/7, unless I manually suspend it.

Again, if you can help, please do. If not, quit wasting our time with useless replies.

My general preferencer still are not updating for Seti, are they ever going to fix it????

BOINC has done this since day 1, it wont follow your preference settings to run during idle periods and it runs all the time. I quit when it first came out because of this, was just invited back over a year later, and it is still broken.

That is incorrect information. This problem has only been recent, and anyone that has been running it for the past year can attest to this fact. If you haven't been around for a year, you can hardly state that the problem has been around since day 1 without knowing what's been going on for the last year.

Further, I've used every version of BOINC since v3.19 and the preferences have always been honored as far as I can recall, with the exception of this past week.

Agreed. Whether some believe it or not, there does appear to be a problem. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled the BOINC software and have repeated check both my local configuration (verified as running with preferences) and I have repeatedly run the preference settings under my account -- and yes, saved them repeatedly! No matter what I do, BOINC runs full bore all the time. I have a 3gig P4, and it runs very hot on some processing runs, to the extent that I have to manually suspend the project in order to allow it to cool down -- it even overheated about a week ago and froze the system. If anyone else if having this problem, I'd very much like to know the solution. Is is possibly a Windows registry key? Is it a problem with the current BOINC version? I don't know -- but it IS a real problem.

There is some issue with Boinc that is causing this problem. I have a dozen computers with boinc running properly (i.e. stops computing when the user starts working and waits 3 minutes until resuming).

Today I tried to install boinc w/seti on a few spare machines and the boinc client will begin processing immediately. It doesn't download the profile correctly and seems to use the "local defaults" which is to run all of the time. If you try to do something on the machine, it will not suspend activity. If you don't believe the posters on this thread, try installing it yourself on a spare machine before suggesting the obvious...

I've tried updating the project and even resetting, but the behavior doesn't change.

Is there a workaround with the local XML file to get boinc to process when the machine is not in use?
