1) Questions and Answers : Web site : Both Projects don't show in profile... (Message 687865)

I checked BOINC Stats and I only find one Vortex that has the team of Georgia Penguin Group. That user is only listed with SETI@Home credits.

There are a couple of possibilities.

1) You have to actually have credits issued before the stats sites pick up the new account. The list of projects is actually based on a third party stats site.

2) You have used a different email address to join (or the case was different). BOINC projects used to store the email address as mixed case. Currently they save the email address as lower case when it is entered. However existing email addresses were not converted to lower case. The email address is hashed with an internal CPID to generate the external CPID. The external CPID is used by stats sites to determine which users from separate projects are the same user.

*duh*
I feel so dumb!
Thanks for the tip.

I in fact didn't use the same username or e-mail address when I joined the Rosetta project. *What was I thinking?* and I should have checked for that before posting here.

I changed the above, do you know if my CPID will be re-calculated or if they'll just sinc up?
I checked the BOINC Stats site a few times and it doesn't show up yet, so I don't know if the changes will work...

OK, the steps that have to happen.

There has to be a computer in common between the two projects.

That computer has to contact each of the projects in the order A, B, A, B. (either project can be first).

At least one of the projects (possibly both) have to update their stats (S@H does this once per day, I believe that Rosetta is either twice or 4 times per day).

The stats site has to update from the project servers. Most of the stats sites do this a few times per day.

Then in the case of the section at the bottom of your user page, S@H has to update from one of the stats sites.

If all goes well, this should be complete in about 2 days after the connections from the client. If things go badly, it will be about a week. If things go really badly (i.e. one of the projects has an unexpected extended outage) it can take literally months.

The last time I changed my email address, about 40 of the projects synchronized in one day. All but 2 synchronized in one week. One took 6 months, and the last will not ever synchronize as it has ceased operations.

Both Projects are showing up in my profile now.
Thanks for your help!...

There are. I have 2 P4 3Ghz computers working on both projects.

Funny you should say that, this is what happened when I last updated rosetta:

"11/28/2007 7:28:29 PM|rosetta@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user

11/28/2007 7:28:35 PM|rosetta@home|Reason: project is down"

Thanks for your help!
It's a "wait-and-see" game now...

I am participating in two projects at the moment (seti and Rosetta).

When I view other profiles, I see a section titled:
"Projects in which ~participant~ is participating"

I don't see this in mine. How do I get it to happen?...

Are you using the same email address and username? Do you have both projects on at least one of your computers?

I checked BoincStat and they also list your Seti account separately.

5) Questions and Answers : Web site : cant access old account (Message 685669)
Posted 2458 days ago by Profile Vortex
How long ago was it since you used your old account?

If you were one of the original seti@home participants, you cannot use your old Seti Classic account, but what you can do is use the account you are using now and claim your old seti credit.

This link shows you how: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_classic.php

I had the problem of a) not remembering the password to my old Seti Classic account AND b) my old e-mail accoun was no longer valid as the ISP I had it with went bust.

Hope this helps!...

Hey!

Totally off subject, but I wanted to let you know I figured out the problem in this thread:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=32830

...in case you don't receive e-mails from the forum. The problem was PeerGuardian, companion software to WinMX...

I am having the same exact problem, let me know if you find a fix. Anyone?
I have a dedicated computer for seti and normally it runs fine. Two days ago the same exact thing happened to me.

Hey!

Just to let you know, I figured out what was causing my computer to stop downloading WU's.

As it turns out, it is a companion program to my file sharing program called PeerGuardian. PeerGuardian is supposed to help keep programs like those implemented by the RIAA from connecting to and seeing what I am sharing with the WinMX file sharing software. It, on occasion, updates a list of computers that are suspect RIAA computers and blocks access from those IP addresses. Apparently, at some point in May 2006, it got a list that included the Seti project servers and blocked access for those servers.

There is a way to manually remove names from that list, but I haven't had a chance to look into that yet...but when I stop running it, my downloads work.

Just wanted to let you know!...

If you've been in IT for 15 years, then you know we have to ask all of the stupid basic questions....

True!
I just wanted to point out that I'm not a Noob to this computer biz.

How does this computer connect to the internet? Cable modem through a router/firewall of some sort?

-- Ned

P.S. the "reference site" isn't at Berkeley.

I am connected with cablemodem 8mb down/ 384kb up...100mb switch to 10mb hub to 100mb router to cablemodem.

Nothing has changed on this computer in 6 years except for windows updates (auto), and occasionally file sharing software updates which the last one I did for that was febuary 06.

p.s.
Thanks for Responding!...

Running file sharing programs...? Those can typically prevent SETI from downloading files properly (probably uses the same ports as SETI).

I had one person in my account using LimeWire and it kept causing BOINC to assign a new Computer ID everytime it contacted SETI@Home. Once I uninstalled LimeWire, the problem went away.

Sure, filesharing apps can co-exist for a while, so you may be thinking "but I've been doing this for a while now", but in my experience, it eventually causes problems sooner or later.

Thanks for the suggestion!
I'll try turning FS off once I am done with my current DL...

vortex, go to you "General Prefs" scroll all the way to bottom, change "skip image verification" to yes. Then click Update prefs. Then go to the "projects" tab on the boinc manager, highlight seti (right hand box), then click "update" radio button. see what happens.

I'll let you know if I hear anything or discover the problem myself... frankly, it has me baffled. This computer has been humming along crunching Seti units and file sharing with WinMX for over 6 years now and suddenly it stopped downloading seti units.

Oh, and a note for those who are going to ask, I have 7GB of free space on this computer and yes, I checked a few minutes ago and the Latest version 5.4.9 has the same problem as the old version 4.x, here is the log continued from Last night:

Hello!

(...2006-07-29 03:46:33 [SETI@home] Temporarily failed download of 05my05aa.10710.27105.686074.3.86: http error...)

When it is a http error then I think it is a problem on your side...

Check your internet connection...

Greetings!

EDIT:
Restart Boinc or/ and your PC (maybe your router or modem too)...
I had the same problems with the http error, and this helped me...

Thanks for the suggestions!
But, I have already done the "basics" of troubleshooting ie. re-booting, testing ping/tracert, re-installing, etc., some of that is mentioned below (Heck! I've been in IT for more than 15 years I better do the "basics" before asking questions lol!), and then there is this line in the log:

"2006-07-29 03:46:34 [---] Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down."

...which suggests that it is communicating with BOINC/Seti, just not talking to the right server or having some sort of problem doing that.

Besides, I have 4 other computers on my network that can communicate with the BOINC/Seti servers just fine, and I can do other internet stuff on this particular computer just fine without error.

In my opinion, I think it might be something related to cached information about this computer ID on the server specifically.

Again, thanks for your suggestions!...

I was running the 4.x version of Boinc since the switch from the old seti classic and everything was running fine. Today I noticed One of my machines wasn't processing units so I checked the logs and discovered that there was an error then it kept defering downloads (since 4 May 2006).

No problem, I uninstalled Boinc and installed the latest and Greatest 5.4.9 version. I have been running it for several hours and I am already seeing the same error as was with the older version.

I checked the Server Status page and it says everything is Hunky Dory with the servers. I checked the page that shows Unit info. and it says that the unit(s) were sent. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

I have three other machines on my home network that connect/send/receive Units just fine. This one just hiccuped and is setting a record for hiccups.

(note* If someone can help me with using the Account Manager as well, that would be Peachy)...
