What a great ski trip! The night before our first skiing day the Sierras got about a foot of new snow, which was a lot for this winter. We didn't know, looking at conditions before leaving home, if there would be any snow at all so we were very happy. Those of us who went to San Francisco for a few days before the Tahoe portion also got three very sunny days there, which many of you know can be rare for that city.

With that avatar I can't ever read anything you write without hearing Liam Neeson's voice in my head.

Qui-Gon also has a very unique set of skills.

I recall some folks saying my avatar and nom-de-plume were "unfortunate", though no one ever explained why that was.

Hi Anniet, Rocky was a friend of mine who I never met in person, but chatted with many times here. He and I both served in the Navy, a long time ago, where groups of sailors would often form a "coffee club" to share the expense of making a pot of coffee (or more) for their members each morning. There are very few restrictions to posting on these boards and those are observed here, but other than that all are welcome.

PS, I am not a Jedi Knight.

I am a 61 year old retired lawyer. I don't get to the forums much anymore, but that kenzieB flap is much ado about nothing.

The Pro Bowl was an improvement this year, but there was still the issue of missing players from the two Super Bowl teams.

I am looking forward to Thanksgiving. I put my diet on hold and enjoy . . . with nearby family and friends.

As one of the few left who remember Rocky, in whose name this thread is created, I know he would want to join me in wishing all of you a very happy Thanksgiving, too.

Winter Knight, there is no relation between a MOD decision that you don't like and crunching for SETI. These boards are for fun/socialization, and even if you disagree with 100% of what people write or Moderator's decisions, just ignore the "noise" and crunch for the value of the science to which you are contributing.

If you thought your contribution to the project had value, then I suggest that ill-informed decisions and pseudo-science posted here don't diminish the value of your contribution.

When someone says the word "period" after making a statement, doesn't that mean that there is nothing further to say; that there is no further need to explain or give exceptions to the thrust of the statement? It seems a great orator would know what saying "period" at the end of a statement of fact means to a listener.

I just built a dog run behind my house. I've been planning it for months, and the work took a few weeks (digging post holes, painting lumber) but I'm happy with the way it turned out. And my little doggie likes the outdoor freedom.

I don't know how I let this thread get so old . . . except I have been traveling a lot, and when I'm home the house and yard need lots of work.

Anyway, everybody is welcome to Rocky's Coffee Club. Are any of my old friends checking in these days?

Mod hat = ON

Its long been a policy NOT to sticky the Cricket graphs - they are a tool for the sys-admins to do their work, but are available for us (users) to look at, not study on a minute by minute basis.

Sorry, I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes here. I don't look at the graphs on a minute-by-minute basis, but I do check to see if up/downloads are working before I connect and press the update button. No sense requesting new tasks or reporting finished ones if the connection is down. I assume others use it for similar purposes.

PS When I was a moderator no one told me or my fellow moderators not to "stickie" the Cricket graphs.

I did a search for "Cricket graph" but didn't find anything. Perhaps a moderator can stickie this or put the information in one of the stickied threads in various boards.

Thanks HAL, I'll put it in my bookmarks now.

I hope anyone else having this problem sees this thread.

My bookmark to the cricket graph worked up until the server closet change, now it shows only about 350 bps "in" and about 60 bps "out". Is there a different address that is now being used to view traffic?

Results ready to send:1,444,950

AND

30.01.2013 00:01:01 | SETI@home | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
30.01.2013 00:01:01 | SETI@home | Project has no tasks available

SORRY! But messages like this only put more confusion to the user's brain than anything else does! Or is it because of my bad English?
When I started with SETI June 16th 1999 (my first account), I thought SETI would be easy understanding and it would not need a lot of button-pushing.
No it's confusing (see above) and my retry-button is almost kaput!

...Every Tuesday morning (Pacific time) we begin a four hour data distribution outage for database and systems maintenance. The upload/download servers will be offline during this time. Afterwards you may experience connectivity issues for several more hours as the servers catch up with demand. 15 Jan 2013, 17:39:39 UTC

This is nothing new...

You are correct, Ex, that this is nothing new, but it is happening after I downloaded some work, and while the Server Status page shows 1.4 million "Results" ready to send. It is still confusing and misleading to send a message that there is no work available when so much is shown on the Status page. (And I've been here a while, too.)

I get these messages, over and over again:

1/26/2013 5:17:31 PM SETI@home Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
1/26/2013 5:17:31 PM SETI@home Reporting 1 completed tasks, not requesting new tasks
1/26/2013 5:17:53 PM Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
1/26/2013 5:17:53 PM SETI@home Scheduler request failed: Couldn't connect to server
1/26/2013 5:17:54 PM Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

But the status page shows lots of work, and the cricket graph seems to show both up and downloading. This is frustrating. It took hours to report my completed work, and now I can't connect even though I'm not requesting new work.
