Well, I went through the process but instead of shutting down BOINC I hit the "red X" in the upper right corner, which closes most other software but not BOINC. (I knew that, but it slipped my mind) Anyway, it didn't work, so I'll let these units expire and be sent to someone else. Thanks everyone for your help.

Tsk, tsk. A Jedi master who gives up so easily. Whatever is the galaxy coming to? ;^)

I'm a faux Jedi Master who is frustrated with the chore of getting my replacement hard drive back to the state it was in before the original drive imploded (BOINC and the old WU's are low priority, but at least it's running). When my E-mail, security software, financial software, cloud storage, music program, etc. are up to speed, I may revisit this.

The hard drive was down for a month while the warrantee review and drive replacement (in Ohio no less) was done, so some of those WU's will be expired soon anyway.

Again, thanks for your help.

OK, I think I can do that. Wish me luck; and I'll post my result here.

I am doing something wrong: I hit the "Update" button numerous times and it says scheduler request completed, but the old tasks aren't coming.

Do I have to wait the 5 minutes between update requests?

I just got a replacement hard drive for my computer and installed seti@home. I have merged the old work units with the ones that I got in this installation, but I want to download that work to complete them (the old work has not expired). Can this be done?

Just got back from Iceland! What a beautiful, bucolic country. I wish my State would learn from the Icelanders how to harness geothermal energy.

A backwoods hick and his rude animated monkey slap a blue light on their car and stop some poor guy for driving a Dodge Charger while eating a croissant. In another commercial, a man driving an Audi stops for a pedestrian and slows down coming up on a puddle to avoid splashing two mopes sitting on a bench next to the puddle, but the next car (a Dodge maybe?) splashes the two guys on the bench.

Which car would you be more attracted to?

The high today in Reykjavik is 48ºF. Sunrise was 3:37 AM, and sunset is 11:14 PM. What a strange place; and it's a place I want to experience!

Thanks Julie. I'm trying to travel as much as I can while I'm still fit and mobile.

The skiing was OK at Mt. Rose, while the snow was thin (and slushy in the afternoon). All-in-all though, this was another great Reno/Tahoe Spring trip.

Yea! Lake Tahoe resorts are reporting 3-4 feet of snow.

NOT ME!!!!!!!!!

:)

Julie, you replied to an old (very old) message in this thread, which confused me, but when I checked it out it sent me down memory lane about a good year skiing. And that reminded me that I've been watching the snow at Tahoe for a few weeks now; it is looking good so far.

Also, I didn't want my post count to end in "13", since my upcoming Reno trip needs as much luck as I can muster.

Well, I did my second (and last) marathon last Sunday. I beat my 2013 time and finished much stronger than last year, but I don't want the jarring to my feet, shins, and knees, nor the fatigue to my thighs that 26.2 miles brings.

That's true: if a finger of lava heads toward your home, you can douse it with water from fire hoses, build berms or trenches or offer a small pig or goat to Pele, but nothing will stop it (though I'm not sure anyone has done that last thing lately).

Oh, those poor folks on the Big Island. Two (and a half?) hurricanes in the last few months have blown by, and now a lava flow is threatening homes. I hope things turn out well for them.

My second major trip of the year is over, and I had a great time. The hardest part for me, as always, was the plane ride to and from. Otherwise, I met an old friend (from here) and saw some wonderful museums and sights. But it's good to be back home.

One storm (Iselle) went by with little overall damage, but another one (Julio) is yet to come. We hope it continues to veer North, away from the Islands.
