Tonight, just got inside from watching green aurora burn through the cloud layer. Like green eyes that would appear to watch you. Very cool. I'm in Dawson YT. Some of the more continuous bands looked like CT's post of Lance Taylor Image taken: Sep. 9, 2011 Location: Edmonton, AB, Canada earlier.
Except here it was directly overhead.

Next time I will try to take not just wine, but a camera too.
Cheers!

Hi Angela
<sorry to jump into the conversation>
Thought you might be interested in this - if you haven't seen it already: research at York University on the territories and movement of raccoons in Toronto.
CBC in February (repeated in April, when I saw it) aired a documentary called "Raccoon Nation" based on the York U research. The 45 minute doc is here (after 15 seconds of ads):
CBC Raccoon Nation
It is a fascinating piece!

A written summary of the documentary, with the names and links to the researchers is here:

A bit of geography and a fun "back story".
Very simple. Name the ship to win.
(If you know the ship, you know where it is. And vice versa)

... The place is not an island ... . If you go in to any geography 300 level text book this place in the Bay of Fundy is well marked out, and very distinctive.
Again think; climate, and biology.
celttooth

I'm merely stun'd as a post.
I hiked there; I honeymooned nearby; wife did an MSc on sedimentation there; I studied the chemistry of the basalts in your photo. So you would think I'd remember this ... ?

If it is where I think it is, the place is Cape Split.

scurvy Notions
====================
That's the place. It is a very long way from Banden Oregon?
Again we are back in the place that God made first.
Where the water is salt, and the tides are very, very high
celttooth

Is this one of those maritime trick questions? I counted the islands and got the answer "four maybe five" which led me to dimly recall a place called Five Islands on the scurvy side of the bay.

A more specific guess for an island in the Bay of Fundy would be Grand Manan island, on the New Brunswick shore.

Celttooth if that is salt water it has a big tidal bore, so Ill guess somewhere in the Bay of Fundy where all those Scurvy Notions live.

Is this near the Anasazi sites?
So is it New Mexico? Chaco Canyon specifically?

Dawn Lyn, Arthur Hunnicut, John Davis Chandler, and Pepe Serna all participated with Gregory Peck in the 1971 movie "Shoot Out".

Normally I wouldn't care, but the reviews of this movie are universally very funny in describing just how AWFUL the movie actually was. If "Shoot Out" is 'famous', it is famous for being bad.

The link below leads to a 1971 movie review in the New York Times; if you want to read one.

Shoot Out':Peck and Dawn Lyn Cast in Hathaway Film
By ROGER GREENSPUN
Published: October 14, 1971

It seems a lot to expect a little 7-year-old girl with just another movie and a TV series behind her to hold together a whole feature film full of inept adults, but that is what somebody must have expected of Dawn Lyn in "Shoot Out," given the story, the director, and the rest of the cast. Actually, Miss Lyn is not yet quite up to shaping such a movie, though she tries hard enough, and even succeeds in bringing some life to her role as Gregory Peck's illegitimate daughter—a part that could well prove the ultimate trial of the Stanislavsky method.

From me who "lurks" more than post: it is a pleasure to read your posts, be amused by your wit, philosophy, intellect, poetry, and science background. And I appreciate the SETI 'apparatus' and ALL the people 'behind the scene that make this possible (including raccoons).

From me to all of you, I wish SETI and each and all of you a safe, happy and prosperous new year in 2011.

Cheers!

Having kids is a good network diagnostic tool.

LOL

And if they can't hack it back up, It's a REAL problem. :D

I asked 'the experts' and they did not notice any FB problems. I am snootily informed that FB being down for '8 hours' is OK because of the seemingly infinite variety of other 'instant communication' methods available which are in constant - and simultaneous - use.
As long as (at least) their "status" is updated every day, then all's well in the facebook world.

I'm sure that's a relief to all of us who still use buggy whips and rotary dial phones ... .
