Hiamps did you manage to get this working? Just curious as this thread seemed to stop without a resolution. It would be good to know what you did to fix it.

Just wondering if perhaps it was the Cuda section of the App_info file maybe set to the wrong number of GPUs? Or did you have to completely remove the drivers and BOINC and then reinstall Drivers then BOINC?

Anyways, please let us know.

Thanks,

Howie

Great info. Thanks for posting. My rule of thumb has always been to over size my power supplies. I know that none of my systems use anywhere near 100% of what is available. But it's also intersting to note how much varriation there is between types of sytems. Might have to start testing RAC per watt of various systems.

On power supplies, you absolutely need margin: if the power supply is running flat out, it won't be able to handle occasional spike, it will run a lot hotter, and it won't last long.

It's less important, but you have to be careful on the other end too. Most PC power supplies need some load, and if you use a 1000w power supply on a very low power Atom motherboard it may not be able provide accurate regulated voltages under 20 watts.

Very true Ned.

I wholeheartedly agree. So who is questioning motives?

On threads like this, we often see words like "sinister" whenever credit is adjusted. Invariably, someone writes about what the project is "doing to" those of us whose computers actually do the work.

If you think this is done out of malice, look at it from the other side:

Picture this from Eric Korpela's point of view. He's got a lot invested in SETI@Home being successful.

It doesn't make sense for someone with a lot invested in the project to drive people away.

It follows that one of his goals is fair and accurate credit.

We can argue about the implementation of that goal, but when we start questioning motives, sorry, but that does not make any sense at all.

Glad to hear you are bulldozing through it all Matt.

The Intel Server / RAID controller interface will get easy after a while but I am wondering why you are using a mouse? I have always used a keyboard to configure those controllers and have never found it overly difficult.

Anyways, onwards and upwards. It will all come together soon enough.

Is this why my RAC has dropped from 72,000 back in May to 61,000 today? Or is there some other sinister workings going on?

I can't find the post where I read that now. I think it was just to keep the figure low enough so that BM wouldn't get the idea you had two really fast cards and load you up beyond what you could finish.

I remember reading this as well.

Before this thread, I had to read lots of threads to figure out how to set up the app_info properly. I do not remember where I read it either... :(

Thanks for the clarification Richard.

When Mark posted his app_info.xml file I too wondered what all that was about. I went through all the calcs and have created separate directories on the server for each machine in my inventory. Looks like the only change I will have to make will be with the graphics card calcs as they will likely be the only thing changing for a while.

LOL..

Rob never has to turn on his furnace,
Rob never has to diet cause he is running around like a chicken making sure things are working right,
Rob has to eat PB&J ALL THE TIME cause he doesn't have time for anything else...and if he tried to nuke a pizza he'd blow a breaker...
Rob will likely be the first person visited by the men in black from crunching packets for SETI.

Pending Credit: 373,709 and growing.

Great job people!

You should not need to attach to SETI at all, just shut down BOINC completely, move over your old folder and replace the installed one, I would restart just to make certain and then fire up BOINC.

It should pick right up where you left off.

Yep.. That worked perfectly. Thanks for the info arkayn.

Similar situation here.

I have a failing drive on my new cruncher. I am going to try and ghost the drive tonight but think it might be toast. The drive still boots into Win Vista Bus 64bit but everytme I try to do something a little message pops up saying that the action cannot be performed because the contents are corrupt or something to that effect. I was able to copy the BOINC directory to a network drive.

If I:
1: Install a new drive and same OS with same PC name
2: Install Boinc and attach to seti again
3. Shut down BOINC and copy the old directory in its entirety back
4. Restart BOINC

Will this box magically start crunching again as if nothing changed?

Any suggestions are appreciated. Oh and if this type of question has been posted before, please post a link.

Thanks people.

G
