1) Message boards : Number crunching : Boinc sees only one core of GTX 295. (Message 1178078)

I have a problem that I only noticed yesterday. Don't know how long
it's been happening.
Boinc sees only one core(?) of my GTX 295.
Two weeks ago there were two.
GPU-Z sees both and reports on temerature, etc.
Everest Ultimate sees both.
I run the latest drivers from Nvidia (uploaded yesterday).
OS is Win Vista Prof x64
Latest opt apps from Lunatics installed. (o.39)
Restarted Boinc. Restared computer.
Downgraded to Boinc 6.10.60.
Any ideas please.

I've been told by Thermaltake that 4 GTX295 cards would not be possible in the US. So I may just stay with a GA-EX58-UD4P motherboard since the 4th slot in the ASRock would just stay empty as Thermaltake said their 1500w psu is only for Europe not the US(I guess We don't have 240vac in their little minds). :(p

Can you use 2 PSU one for the board and 2 cards and the 2nd for the other 2 cards. Put 2 PSU in your case.

There could be problems using two power supplies.
Only one of them would be connected to the mobo with the 24 pin connector.
This would mean only that psu would be connected to Vsense (pin 13) and psuOK (pin 8)
The Vsense pin is used to ensure the correct voltages reach the motherboard by canceling any losses in the cables.
The psuOK signal is used at boot time to tell the mobo it is OK to switch on and to cause an immediate computer shut down if the psu reports in is NOT OK.

Therefore what are the consequences if the second psu supplies the wrong voltages, and what happens if it fails and the computer does not close down.

Could there be a release of that all important smoke?

Get yourself a Booster X5. Available at NewEgg. It is a dedicated Graphic
Power Supply.
LianLi also makes a double 24-pin connector to enable 2 PSU to be connected
to the mobo's 24-pin connector.

Dear Friends in Space!
I'm planning to set up a SETI/BOINC oriented system. I've been reading lots of posts and unfortunately my research is inconclusive. Therefore you guys are my last hope. ;-) So to clear a little bit. The system should cost at most $1000, should be eco friendly (low power consumption) and size doesn't matter. And now, I discovered myself (+read about it ;)) that the most important thing in CPU is L2 cache (I have Pentium M 1.8 GHz 2MB which is more efficient that Xeon 2.6 GHz 512 KB) but what about L3 cache? As far as I know it's little less accessible for the core than L2 but Itaniums and i7s has lots of it... And now there's also the CUDA thing... I'll appreciate any suggestions! Thx in advance and happy crunchin'! :-)

Saw an iteresting combination today. Look at:
http://www.driversheaven.net/reviews.php?reviewid=747
This may take some beating and the OS is Vista64.

Hi folks!
Just wondering whether there´s a problem with this project or not. I have the las 1 1/2 days no connection to the project/server.
Someone else has found this?
For the last 1 1/2 years it never took so much time offline (since I added my account to the project).
Thanks!

12) Message boards : Number crunching : Vista 64 - enabling Remote Desktop (Message 879990)

Post:
I'm looking for pointers on enabling Microsoft's remote desktop (RDT?) on Vista 64 system. Preferably one that you might have successfully used. I've followed multiple links the last two days were the Vista hack works in 32 bit and not in 64 bit. I'm hoping that someone on this forum might have already successfully crossed that hurdle.

Also, when I searched the SETI message boards I saw a comment about RDT interfering with the CUDA devices. Any comments?

Thanks for the help!

HI,
I'm a bit of a tyro with this myself. But you might want to look at

SLI has never prevented it running. It is a function of CUDA (go look at the nVidia site) that 2 cards in SLI function as 1 card (that is the purpose of SLI in the first place) so Boinc will "see" only one CUDA device. If you want to use the cards (or cores on a 295) independently then SLI must be disabled.

F.

Umm...how does one disable the sli on a 295? Just bought one and not installed yet. Hope I needn't open the card.

It will work on x64 (at least CPU part) too.
x64-x86 performance difference not so big to think about it on this stage of development.
Redo PGO optimization for this build will give better speed increase.

Thanx!

[quote]This version intended to allow simultaneous SETI MB processing on CPU and GPU on the same host.

It's just workaround of BOINC's inability to maintain such config. So, as any workaround it has its own advantages, disadvantages and limitations. Peruse known issues and use this package wisely. Please, report all unknows issues in this thread.

P.S. Now you can easily see how fast CUDA is indeed (on non-VLAR tasks). CPU apps completed <20% of their tasks when CUDA app finished its first task on my Q9450+9600GSO host ;)
Enjoy!
