Apparently it doesnt work on XP. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/262265

The work around is to change the IP address to a non working one for your router and then back to dhcp (or a working static address).

Disable
=======

netsh interface ip set address <interface name> static <ip address> <mask> <default gateway> <gateway interface metric>

e.g.
netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" static 1.1.1.1 255.0.0.0 1.0.0.1 1

Enable
======

netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" dhcp

Tried on XP and works OK.

Seems a shame to lose the 250. Could you just put that in one of your home machines?

I'm sure you'd sneak that past the missus .....

Hmm..............

Last contacted SETI on 10 Sep 2010 22:17:04 UTC.

I would perform a project reset. More important to get the machine back online with SETI since the completed work is probably lost anyway.

Be advised that you will probably lose the optimized apps installation also so be prepared to reinstall the optimized apps again.

This is what I would do but it's your machine...............

That machine is a ghost machine created when a machine accidentally booted from the wrong disk which had an earlier copy of a SETI install on it. I can't merge the two machines. ID: 4650366 and ID: 5488329.

The machine which wouldnt report finally has with 211 tasks (ID: 5516356 ).

Is anyone else having problem reporting?

Most of my machines are reporting one or two tasks at a time OK.

However I have one which hasnt reported for a time and now has over 100 tasks to report.

When it reports I get

Hi Tim,

No, it's the same size as the normal client_state file. The other one there is client_state_old, but it is exactly that - 6 months old.

Looks like I'm gonna have to get a new machine id, and try to get some more work.

The machine hasn't changed, so I should be able to merge it with the old one, but I will lose about 800 tasks.

Damn! This was just starting to rip through a good few wu's too. Now it's sitting on 800 tasks it can't work on, and I can't seem to get any new ones either.

regards, Giz.

So annoying when that happens. Assuming your 6 month old file has the same host cpid value as you were currently using you could use this to start Boinc and detach/reattach which will release those orphaned 800 tasks.

There was a server side change made a while ago which means that VLAR tasks that dont run as well on a GPU are only allocated to CPU. You may be experiencing that. Otherwise the MB tasks run on CPU or GPU.

Do your CPU tasks have a name something like xxxxxxxxxxx.vlar_y - those a VLARs which wont get assigned to your GPU.

With a lot of users currently requesting new work you may just have been unlucky and got 0 allocated on that request.

If you have surplus of CPU tasks you could look at Freds Reschedule app which allows you to move tasks from CPU<_> GPU.

Note: The other scheduler app on Lunatics does not work well with Fermi cards.

Hi all, one of my hosts seems to be getting a lot of errors in the last few hours since the servers came back online Host ID: 879910 I have another three WU's that are yet to report and I noticed the run time is identical when they exit at 01:51:44 I am running AK's optimised app and they are non Cuda WU's, anyone having similar problems?
One of them link below

EXIT STATUS -177 (0xffffffffffffff4f)

There are a few threads with explanations as to the cause of these errors but as a quick fix you can download the new Reschedule tool by Fred which has an option to fix the problem. (The -177 happens when a task exits because it has reached a maximum timeout value)

Getting it on all my machines as well. At first fails to upload because of space but then succeeds.

It is hard to believe the SETI folks wouldnt have spotted the disks were full (unless nothing could be done about it) - I wonder if it is a deliberate mechanism to control the upload storm by limiting the amount of disk space available? However, I did wonder if the increasing pendings and ghosts were eventually going to cause a problem.

Sorry, says I dont have enough credits to write in the forum.

Does the IP address of your computer affect Boinc from connecting? I travel for work, so the ip address is never the same, and online it says my ip is the same as when I am at home, not the new one on the road. My laptop continually says Retrieving Current Status. My Server continually says Processing Suspended: User Active.

The website wont even update the computer info on any of my computers running Boinc.

Thanks for a reply (if you want to).
Peranha

Sounds like two problems on 2 machines? The server has "Do work when computer is in use" set to No (unticked) and on the laptop boincmgr cannot connect to boinc.exe perhaps because of firewall blocking app connection via port 31416?
I have two routers at home (work and home) which give PCs different IP addresses and I connect via both at different times without problems.

Where it ends up will set the amount of RAM that comes with it.

Thanks for all your donations!

Eric,

Your math looks good to me! $9K exactly.

I see Mark's original $1K offer + 6 extra $1K (62466, 62467, 62468, 62470, 62472, 62764) + soft^spirit cheque for $1K + $200 + $400 *2 (62603, 62695, 62698).

Have you tried downlaoding something like EVGAPrecision or MSI Afterburner

They will show you how your GPU is performing and allow you to overclock/underclock control fan speeds etc.

Tried various things, swapped GPUs and tried variouds combinations of the memory, upgraded video driver but still did it. Went in to BIOS and fixed the memory speed to match the RAMs spec and hasnt locked up since. I think the Auto overclock was pushing the memory too far.

I did exactly the same thing on an i7 ASRock MB. I couldn't work out why the RAC of the machine was low and tasks taking forever to complete.

I installed the ASROCK monitoring utility which showed the CPU speed was cycling from 0 to 2.67GHz and keeping the CPU temperature at a constant 90C. Then I looked closely at the CPU fan and it had a power lead jammed in it.

Removed the lead, CPU dropped to about 50C and the speed remained constant at 2.67GHz.

Have you bought anything new lately? Like a cordless phone that might be on or near the same frequency?

No I have not brought anything lately and my ISP have got no ideas I only seem to have trouble in July/August like line dropping before I had this problem something to do with re-sync the line. Maybe they are doing something at night with the exchange would like to go cable etc still on the same copper lines that have been in this bungalow before I moved in 39 years ago.

I can sympathise but not help much. I had a similar problem suddenly started with a Netgear DG834V2. Tried swapping with another borrowed Netgear DG834 and exactly the same. I have a work ADSL as well as home and now have a 3COM and a Zyxel installed and have not had the problem since. (The modem seemed to be working Ok - and could be pinged remotely but just periodically/randomly stopped sending data in and out) A restart made it work for a while.

I assume some change was made at the exchange which the old modems couldnt cope with (and no newer firmware for this version) but the likelyhood of getting my ISP to admit/sort anything out was highly unlikely so I took the risk and tried new hardware.

My ADSL is pretty poor - lucky to get 2Mb/s as we are a long way from the exchange.

As for getting back on topic, right after the outage I jumped up to an all time high for me of ~40,000+ pendings. By the next day I was back down to ~25,000. I am now back up to over 30,000 though. Oh,and Questor, I have a bunch of your ghosts I'm waiting on and I think I've seen a couple from Todd too! :-)

Sorry you are waiting on my ghosts. The recent DCF ups and downs have meant I've ended up with way to many WUs after initially having too few. I'm therefore stuck with either keeping the ghost users waiting or if I drop my OK WUs setting a lot of other users back to another long wait for a new wingman. Exactly the same as you have here. No truncation of data on the page - just no data at all , only the page header. Been like this for over a week now and pending was around the 800K mark. I 'assumed' that the increase in pendings because of larger caches and ghost units was becoming too big a hit on the database so they put in some sort of restriction.

Also had a quick check on a couple of machines last night for ghosts for the first time.
1. Reschedule showed 857 tasks in progress - web site 2020
2. Reschedule showed 882 tasks in progress - web site 2380
3. Reschedule showed 2800 tasks in progress - web site 4420

I'm going to have to do something soon to fix this but am loathe to disconect/connect because of losing what WUs I have.
