Hi Paul,

sorry, but in the meantime the results have been reported correctly, and the files are not to be found on disk anymore.

Before posting the first message of this tread, I did check the results page for the computer which had the problem, and the result appeared correctly in the list, with my computer + 3 others having reported correctly the workunit.

So probably the problem was only local, as restarting the PC did solve it.

AMD Sempron 2.8GHz, 512MB Ram, Win XP Sp2, IDE disk, no overclocking, Boinc 4.19 (boinc 4.45 won't run on this computer).

I got two results which do not report correctly. Both have uploaded without a hitch, but they are not offloaded from the queue.

When Boinc connects to the server, and tries to report them, it gets the message "Got ack for result (null), can't find".

Any explanation for this behaviour? Should I undertake something to correct the situation?

Thanks in advance.

Not everybody has a top-class PC. They are always at the limit for the report deadline. If the upload will not start working in the next days (it has problems since one week) many contributors will report their results too late...

They will see their perfect valid results, terminated within the time limit, granted no credit at all

And then, hell will open!!!

Hi C Elliot,

sorry, I am not able to identify the results which I sent late. I have "reset" the project, and all the overdue WUs have disappeared from the local machine, and new fresh ones have been downloaded.

If I go to the "Result" section of my account, there are too many pages to view. Further, I have 5 machines working, and in the result pages there is no clue about which machine got which unit. I should click on the "Detail" of each single result in order to see which machine got it (and this is V E R Y boring, I tell you).

I have no idea if the server does indeed use a good late result. I suggest to you to "reset" the project, so that you get new WUs which you can complete within the planned time frame.

Have a good week-end, real life is out there waiting for us.

Hi Thierry,

thanks for your help, and the usefull link.

I have followed both advises, and all seems well.

Do you know if the programmers at Berkeley will "solve" the problem with the computation time of version 4.05? Another thing which happens is that the CPU continues working from 30 minutes to 1 hour after having reached the 100%...

Since the introduction of Boinc 4.05 my PCs need 50% more time to finish a WU. When the software downloads the WUs to be processed, it still uses the "old" time needed with Boinc 4.02 to evaluate how many WUs to download to keep the queue filled.

The problem is that now my 3 machines are working on WUs which are "past" (they should have been sent back 1 to 3 days ago), and there are many such WUs on each machine. Thus, my PC are working with no profit for nobody (I assume the result, when sent back, will be discarded, and no credit will be given).

Questions:

1) How can I free the queue from those overdue WUs?
2) How can I ensure that new WUs downloaded can be processed within the time frame assigned?

Thanks for any help.

8) Message boards : Number crunching : Turn on Pending credit!! (Message 28982)

IMHO, there would bye a solution for all these problems:

1) Give immediate credit to each one who has crunched a WU.
2) At the end, when 3 results are equal, revoke credits for the computers which didn't calculate the same result (if any).

Benefit:

1) I get immediate feedback my work has been counted.
2) If my credit decreases, I know something is faulty with one or more of my computers.
3) No pending credits stats.
4) The amount of processing and data to be kept should be the same as for the present solution.
