1) Message boards : Number crunching : Astropulse/Einstein@Home status? (Message 41932)

Could someone update the Boinc homepage to reflect that the Einstein project is not live yet? (Maybe edit the reference: 'Einstein@home: search data from the Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory (LIGO) in the US and from the GEO 600 gravitational wave observatory in Germany for signals coming from rapidly rotating neutron stars, known as pulsars.')

I found it somewhat a pain to navigate the Einstein site looking for some reference to an Einstein Boinc project thinking that it might be separate to the (pending) Einstein@home project (like what happened with Seti for a while).

Thanks for both replies but it looks like my General Preferences are not the problem:

Do work while computer is in use? no
Do work only after computer is idle for 2 minutes
On multiprocessors, use at most 1 processors

(these have been copied to seperate preferences for home, work and school settings, though all clients set to default (home)).

More symptoms:

- also ocurring on Boinc 4.05 as well, on a Win2K Pro SP4 install on a newish laptop.

- where it's ocurring it's accompanied by Task Mananger processes named like the work unit(s) being crunched, (ex: setiathome_4.03_windows_intelx86.exe), in addition to the running process for the main Boinc exe (boinc_gui.exe)).
(On boinc clients without the issue the only boinc process listed in Task Manager is the main Boinc exe (boinc_gui.exe)).

- where it's occuring you can actually see the progress and to completion times for the work unit changing in the work tab of the boinc gui. (On boinc clients without the issue these numbers stay static when viewed in the boinc gui).

thanks.

CPU utilization for process setiathome_4.03_windows_intelx86.exe is running consistently at 99%+ on S@H with Boinc v4.09 and Windows Server 2003.

Any ideas? This is not even when the screensaver is running, this is while I'm using the desktop! My Boinc general preferences are 'On multiprocessors, use at most: 1 processors'. 4.05 was doing this too.

I'm using a fully-patched Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition O/S on an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ w/ 1GB RAM, 80GB disk.

6) Message boards : Cafe SETI : Cool Team Names / What do they mean? (Message 23734)

Post:

Hi all,

I am impressed by the diversity of team names that are out there. I was wondering what some of them mean or how they came about, maybe some of their history with distributed computing or other online initiatives. Would any founders of the top teams like to comment?

Everyone could pipe in on their vote for 'coolest' team name/purpose/philosophy... ;-)
