As of right now, no tapes to be split for MB, and RTS is 0. Hmmmmmm...panic?

The old graphics were for the "old" seti software (Seti Classic). The new software has new graphics, explained here
3) Message boards : Number crunching : running more than 1 unit on gpu (Message 1368707)

Hi guys it looks like all is working so I have stoped bionic so I can try and get 2 units going on the GPU

If I understand the posts about this subject what value do I put in the xml file at the moment I have this

<count>1</count>

So if I understand correctly for 2 units I would change it to .5 and 3 units .33 is that correct ?

Yes.

Make sure you change every instance of <count> in your app_info file.

You probably already know this, but multiple WU's on your 2XX cards probably won't work.
4) Questions and Answers : GPU applications : How to show graphics on GPU work (Message 1368021)
Posted 7 days ago by Profile Gatekeeper
Someone with more technical knowledge could give you a better explanation, but AFAIK, only the CPU apps have the code to run the screensaver. I know it has been specifically excluded in all the "optimized" apps, including the ones for CPU, to make the programs more efficient. I believe the screensaver is an openGL program, and the CUDA (GPU) programs don't leave enough overhead. But as I said, I'm just a "user". (g)

7) Questions and Answers : Getting started : Just started. Need some guidence (Message 1365583)
Posted 14 days ago by Profile Gatekeeper
Hi there,
I just joined SETI@home and I would like to contribute in some way. However....I am rather perplexed by the Bonic program, and need some guidence on how to work it. Help would be much appreciated
-Henry

You've received 16 units of work. Everything looks good so far. As the work is completed, BOINC will automatically upload and report it and send you more work. You don't need to do anything.

Posted 20 days ago by Profile Gatekeeper
For some reason, I do have not been able to get any new units for most of the day, completely out of units to crunch as well, tried the usual kick to try and get things going but nothing :(

And, as is usually the case, 25 minutes after you posted, one of your rigs got work.

Just within the last hour have I finally been able to top off my allocation on all three rigs. Looks like the shortie storm is at least temporarily over.
10) Message boards : Number crunching : 590 vs 580 wu capacity problem (Message 1359690)
Posted 30 days ago by Profile Gatekeeper
On the GTX 580 I can do 3 wu's at a time with the Lunatics app and the 3 wu's take up about 950MB, yet from what I remember I could not do more than 2 wu's per gpu on the GTX 590 as they took up about 1000MB or so, which seems strange to Me, they should both use the same amount of ram on each gpu, regardless if this is a 580 or a 590 or a 690 card...

My experience is identical to yours. My 2 580's run three at a time, all day, no problem. Like you, when I got the 590's, I figured three at a time (6 per card) would be the setup. It simply wouldn't work. 3 would run, but at times so slow it was a waste of effort. At the time, it was suggested to me that the problem was in the power management of the 590 card. In order to make everything work without burning the card up, NVidia somehow throttled the 590, thereby reducing it's efficiency. Not a technical explanation, but then, I'm not really a techie. Two per core on the 590 is the best I've ever been able to do, here or on Einstein.

For the past few days I have been getting a lot of errors on work units:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=4226847&offset=0&show_names=0&state=6&appid=

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=2934756090

I'm not sure if I have something wrong with the new 7850 GPU I added to my system, or if these are work unit issues.

Also not really sure how to find out - spent some time searching google and this site for ideas and didn't have any luck.

Anyone have and ideas for what my issue might be?

Thanks!

12) Questions and Answers : GPU applications : Getting 6.08 ver cuda instead of ver 6.10 (Message 1357397)
Posted 36 days ago by Profile Gatekeeper
Since you're running "anonymous platform", I gather you're using the Lunatics opti apps and an app_info.xml file. In that case, both the 6.08 and 6.10 designations refer to the same program. Whichever is listed first in your app_info file will appear as the running version.

Hmm..I see that your system has not contacted the project since Friday. Are you sure your network connection is functioning properly?

You might also try rebooting your system.
15) Questions and Answers : Windows : Multiple Machines - Same Account? (Message 1354558)
Posted 44 days ago by Profile Gatekeeper
I have multiple machines that I can install the SetiAtHome software on. Do I use the same account ID and password on each of the systems, or do I need to setup separate accounts for each?

Thanks,

-Danny.

Use the same email address and password as you did initially. Just be sure to check "existing user" when asked if you're a new or exiting user.
16) Questions and Answers : Windows : Virus concerns (Message 1354557)
Posted 44 days ago by Profile Gatekeeper
Has anyone had their computer antivirus software warn them of a virus lately? Or has anyone ever had their security compromised while running seti@home or any of the other programs?
Also,
Can anyone tell me how many computing hours I need to accumulate in order to warrant a tour of a ground array site that is located here where I live and attend college in Lassen county? Maybe help me find someone who might have knowledge of volunteer/intern positions, or like I said, a tour of a facility would be a great opportunity?
Thank you,
David

None of the BOINC software, nor any of the seti software or files, contains any viruses.Depending on your AV program, there have been reports of "false positives".

Running seti has nothing to do with the activities of any array locations. Seti data comes from the Arecibo unit in Puerto Rico, but it is obtained from operations of other projects at that location.

Hey everyone...
was excited to get back with Seti@home, long ago did a bunch, and my new system is sooooo fast, thought I'd get back into it. I've processed some packets, but I find most of the time I get an error message saying BOINC has had some problem three times in three minutes, and the screen saver is always saying Boinc is not running. I've uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, and I'm about to give up on this. Any last thoughts before I toss in the towel on Seti@Home?

Well, you've got 195 tasks on your system (in progress). Exactly what error are you seeing? Three times in 3 minutes seems excessive; BOINC will not contact the project more often than once every 5 minutes, unless you repeatedly hit the update button, in which case you'll get an error saying your update attempt is too soon (less than 5 minutes since last attempt).

You could post some of your message log which would help us further analyze your problem, but at this point, I can't see anything obviously amiss.

OK great! It's April 4 today and the scheduler is not responding to my update request. What's UP?

Looks like you have 26 units in progress on 2 rigs. The other two haven't tried to contact the project since before the outage. Did you set them to NNT?

You might as well wait until Thursday morning. The project is shutting down for at least 72 hours, starting about 8 hours from now.
20) Message boards : Number crunching : Computation error - Astropulse? (Message 1352311)

Does anyone know what this means? Should I not accept Astropulse tasks if there is an "error while downloading" or is this normal?

Thank you!
Diane

That error was not on your system. Your system erred out with a computational error here. The error code -202 is listed in the BOINC FAQ but really isn't well explained in layman's terms. Perhaps one of the resident code experts could help with an explanation.
