So....is anyone else leaving it running just to see what you might get from time to time, if anything? I received a WU on the 7th. I wonder how long these sporadic bits of data will continue to be sent out.

Can I finish the Seti@home tasks left in my Boinc manager?
Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing....I know we can finish them....but is there a point? Will they still be accepting them?

I can't believe the ride is almost over! It will be interesting to see what the results of the last 20 years of work show. I wonder how long it will take them work through all of this data though?! All of our computers, the last 20 years, now it is just on them.....it makes you wonder if it will be another decade before we hear of any results.

I will be moving over to Folding@home when the last work units are issued to help with the Covid-19 crisis. After that is past I will go back to the astro fields.

I never frequented these forums much, pretty much only when I had a problem...but the others have always been very kind and helpful and I wish everyone well!
4) Questions and Answers : Getting started : How to get stats from old username? (Message 2037280)

Post:
I joined Seti back in college ('99/'00) but have no clue what my username was then. I rejoined back in '01 under a new name. With the project shut down approaching I was curious if there was anyway to retrieve my 'classic' stats from that time frame? I know my old college e-mail address but obviously access to that is gone. Thanks!

I have to wonder....the people who have been crunching here....when this finally ends....will they move over to different projects or just drop out completely? I am looking at other projects now but I do not have the same passion or desire for them as I do seti. I am curious what % of users will just say farewell and remove the program. We all knew this day would come, but it was very sudden, not much lead up warning...at least that I knew about.

Wow, this was not the news I was expecting this morning at all.

What happened to all of the breakthrough listen data that Seti was to receive and distriute - I thought that was going to keep the project alive a lot longer?

Obviously all good things have to come to an end but this too me by surprise. I remember running seti classic then the change to boinc - this is truly a sad day for us crunchers....hopefully all of this work will show signs of possible signals that push the need for this project again!

I just received and swapped the card. Running Seti for about the last 10 minutes along with GPU-Z.

GPU temp seems to be holding steady around 65C with the fan speed at 29% - ambient air temp is 68F.

I have Seti set to only run 25% of the CPU - currently running around 85C on the CPU.

I typically have Seti not run the GPU when I am on the computer, just when I am away. I will re-enable that once I make sure this card does not get too hot.

Thanks!

Thanks for all your tips and suggestions! I set up the replacement yesterday so hopefully will have the new card soon. I have shut down seti for now until I get the new card, running the on-board graphics currently. Hopefully this card will last longer!

I went away on vacation for a extended weekend and left Seti running on my new system with the RTX 2060 - came back to a failed card. Is this common? I know I can throttle the CPU usage (and I do to 50%), is there a way to throttle the GPU usage as not to stress the card too much? Does Seti not play well with that particular card? Wondering if I just just disable the GPU crunching as I do not want this to happen again.

Thanks for that info! I read somewhere that we are only going to get a very small percentage of the Breakthrough data, is that accurate? The rest is to be done 'in house'.

I am a very 'set it and forget it' user of seti@home on my machines. However, I was just wondering if there is still a stream of new incoming data for us to crunch of if the data being sent is older 'pre-crunched' data that we are doing again but with updated versions to look in more detail. They have not produced a new 'science newsletter' in 10 years. I read about Nebula when it was 1st mentioned, but that is on their end, not ours (if I'm correct). Breakthrough Listen was the latest data source I heard of, but is that data being sent to us to crunch yet?

Many projects "pay" far more per task (or per hour) than SETI.
In terms of number of users SETI is still one of the largest projects using BOINC.

Interesting, good to know! Thanks!

I clicked on the top 100 participants on the BOINC page and was somewhat surprised to see only a few running Seti. Are we, the users here, really that small of a batch? Collatz Conjecture had a significant share of most of the top 100 users allotment. Is there a historical graphic that shows the active users for Seti for the last 5 or 10 years?

I will be happy to get to 20 Million, looks like about another 2 months and I will be there! I forget this even runs most days - I check in on it every couple weeks or so just to 'peek' other than that it just does what it does in the background.

Wow, some people take this stuff so seriously, never realized! I think 'some people' need to take a step back and look at the real problems with this world or a closer to home. Everything from wars to friends with cancer, flying off about data not being available is a pointless drop in the bucket. Chances are you all have jobs, families, friends and this project is just a 'hobby' (if any of you are getting paid though let me know, i want in!). I have it running on 4 or 5 computers and Seti might cross my mind once a month (and that is to make sure the program is still up and running on each machine). I understand we are all passionate about certain things, which is a good thing, but there are always bigger things to be concerned about, and if not for you then count yourself one of the very lucky ones in the world and smile!
18) Message boards : Number crunching : Comp Errors with New Intel Drivers - Beware (Message 1601118)

I have the v15.33.22.64.3621 install package archived & can host it for you to d/l if you can't find it from the Intel site. Normally they yank older releases to never be found again.

I appreciate it, however, using the previous drivers 'windows explorer' kept crashing on my system when I was trying to access the new external network hard drive I added. As soon as I went to the most recent release the crases stopped, but so did any hope of using the Intel 4400. Since this is my work computer (my business) reliablity of the access to my files trumps Seti (at least here). Hopefully they will fix it in the next release.

Thanks for the info, Intel only allows me to go back to the previous drivers, Version 10.18.10.3907. I will give that a shot, if not I will have to dig through their site some more to find them.

I just updated to the latest Intel Drivers for my HD 4400 and all I get are comp errors on those WU's. Version 10.18.10.3960 - with a date of 9/29/14. Anyone have this issue? Everything has been perfect until I updated.
