1) Message boards : Number crunching : RAC drop but unsure why. Any thoughts or guidance appreciated. (Message 1205445)

The machine only has 2gb memory. It pretty much crunches and little else. I'm happy with the resource utilisation and don't see the need to increase memory. However, I plan to roll back to 280.26.

I've also notices 296.10 is available for download, so I might have a look at those too.

I thought I might have had sufficient pending to keep the wingmen stocked and results returning in a timely fashion.

Thanks.

The strangest things happen when you rebuild!

For my background I an more than IT literate, and tech savvy. I am an Enterprise Technical Architect, having coming up through the ranks of tech support. I understand quite well the box in front of me!

I've recently upgraded to an SSD for the primary drive and have noticed significant performance improvements.

However, My RAC has dropped by a factor of 2.5 or thereabouts.

After installing BOINC I copied over the old data folder structure to preserve the workload. All appeared fine.

Noticed a newer release of Lunatics and installed that without hitch. I've checked I have confirmed I'm using the same SSE4.1 instruction set so have eliminated any performance variation there.

Win patches are current. The only change I can think of is that I was previously using NV 280.26 and now using 295.73.

I don't appear to be getting errors as suggested in other posts relating to the 295.73 drivers.

Has anyone experienced this or aware of of any performance issues with the new drivers?

Thanks..

A fairly accurate assessment. Perhaps my opening gambit should be rephrased.

Computer: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=5126909

I no longer have evidence to screenshot, however, I drew that conclusion as the task list indicated that the job was at circa 26% complete with a status of 'waiting to run' and displayed the exact same information for over 24 hours.

Only two tasks were actually running and they were both CPU tasks.

The tasks aborted due to this apparent anomaly are:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=1586619309
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=1589256981

The latter indicates an elasped time of 39:48:57, which is somewhat unusual.

As to why my pending list shows only Cuda tasks I have no idea. CPU tasks take around 1h25 to complete and Cuda 8-15 mins.

If I were to simply put my head in the sand, I would say that the problem has gone away due to aborting the offending tasks.

Apologies to the wingmen btw.

Apologies if this has been posed already as not sure if this is a problem personal to me, but...

I never see Cuda tasks running now and my RAC is going through the floor. I've noted the GPU prefs and have reset them to allow GPU whilst in use but still no change. I did up to .48 and yesterday reinstalled .18 but still no change.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks.

Thanks Richard

All my problems solved now. I was a bit miffed at the loss really only because there was no work coming through from Seti. The results are back in the farm for redistribution already anyway.

I also found a suitable answer to the root cause; which is due to the way the app handles bitness, ie 32/64. I stumbled on the answer over at lunatics courtesy of Josef...

http://lunatics.kwsn.net/windows/help-i-guess.0.html

It may be useful for that gem to be easier to find or at least the next installer version make the change...

Please mark solved. Thanks.

I ventured into the world of optimised apps and it failed.

While I was stupid enough not to take a 'proper' backup of the BOINC folder structure, I did manage to recover most of it using an undelete prog.

I've tried a numerous ways to inject the old work and config but to no avail.

Is there a way to manually add work files into the client? If so could I get some guidance on how to please?

Thanks.

Thanks for prompt reply. I guess I didn't look hard enough to notice no CUDA for Linux. I 'assumed' that CUDA was available as the client was requesting WU's.

I was using 6.6.40, but it didn't detect the GPU at all, so I upgraded to 6.10.6.

I added the options flags as a brute force mechanism to be honest...

I guess I'll go have a look at the Lunatics stuff

Thanks.

Hi, I'm rather stuck and would appreciate some guidance to get my new GPU to crunch some work.

I've just installed an MSI 275gtx lighting (1792mb RAM) along with the new 190.32 drivers.

<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
<no_gpus>0</no_gpus>

to the cc_config.xml

The card has been in for a few days now, but still no work?

I know that Lunatics is available, but for the time being would like to stick with the stock apps.

Is there anything I should do to prod the app/GPU to play nice?

Thanks.

Could someone point me in the right direction to the preferences you are talking about please?

I've looked at all the prefs options I can see in Seti, BOINC Client and BAM, but can't see the options for AP/MB.

Thanks in advance.
