The upgrades should make a vast improvement to the whole system, the more help we get, the faster we can change things and resolve the issues. Please do help with what you are able to, and we can all find better things to have discussions about here.

This looks like the Tyan system that I paid for that they took the money and ran. It was going to have 8 590s with 3 power supplies. About 25k worth. I would have loved to see what the RAC would have been on that.

Just added 1000.00. Let's get some new blood to help out guys. These upgrades might help us all with getting wus reliably in the future. This would be a great Christmas present for SETI, and for all of us.

Done again. Now let's see if we can get a few more people here interested in helping out. Come on, I've got another 1000.00 to spare here. It would be great if anyone else would like to help out and match funds also. The more the merrier.

I noticed your RAC dropping, I was wondering why. Your machines rely on CPU work units, which I dont have a problem getting. Most of my RAC is frpm GPU work units, which is hard to come by in enough quanities at the moment.I think we have all had problems getiing them to download, I keep having to force them, which is hard with several machines located all over. I can only imagine with the number you have, and I would think they are spread over a much greater distance.

The biggest reason RAC is falling is the problems they have had recently with servers and the limit they reached on results, and the workarounds for all of this, which means that they just have not been able to keep all the computers fed with work units. They are in the process of figuring out how to make the software changes, and we are running a funding drive now to try to buy some equipment that they are in need of to maybe help with the hardware side of the problems. With the funding they have, I am sure it feels like they keep patching leaking holes in a very old boat, not having to funds to do a proper fix, with the proper man power.I always hate it when RAC drops, it takes so long to get it back up again.

Who else would like to step and and be the next 1000.00 donor. I still have 2 more donors I will match that amount for, or if you really want to make a splash, donate 2000.00 and I will match that.

We seem to have come to a halt on the fundraising. I would like to help jump start this. Anyone willing and able to make a min 1000.00 donation, I will match, up to a max 3000.00 total. If someone will donate 3000.00 or 3 someone's will donate 1000.00, then we will have added a total of 6000.00 to the cause. I sure wish I drank, I might need to if I tell my wife about this;-)

I use MSI Afterburner. I have only heard of problems with the newest drivers down clocking over clocked cards and that did happen on my systems as well. The clock and cores are running at standard speeds for these cards as I do not have them over clocked at this time.

I dont have the SLI connector installed and I have tried 266.58, and the newer drivers, all with the same results.

It now appears that the problem has not been resolved. The time per WU have gone back to what they were before at about 42-45 minutes. The system does not perform better with 2 580s or 2 295s than it did with 2 8800s. The RAC is about the same.

I did not realize that there are settings for SLI in the bios, so I never thought of looking there, but it is strange that it works with the additional monitor disconnected. It seems that every multi GPU system I have underperforms. Several worked well in the begining, then the performance degraded , and I just cant seem to figure them out.The units with single GPUs perform very well.

I am using 266.58, and was using the newer 270 drivers, but switched back trying to solve the problem. The Nvidia control panel does not show the sli option on several of my systems, just allows multiple monitors and 3D settings. I do not have a SLI connector on the cards. This is the same as I have on several systems which all work.

I had posted before about one of my systems that just did not seem to perform as it should, first with 2 gtx295s and now with 2 gtx580s. I could see that all both cards were working under tasks. I tried reinstaling srti, nvidia drivers, and even windows, all with no improvements. I had asked here if anyone knew if having multiple moniors would have an effect. I tried putting both on 1 card and also each on a seperate card. With the 580s i noticed that it was taking 42-43 minutes for each task with each card doing 2 workunits apiece. Most of my other setups can do them in about 15 minutes. Finally I did disconnet the second monitor, and guess what, the times are now where they should be. I really like having the 2 monitors, but 18000 RAC with 2 580s was not productive. Now I will have to wait untill the wife gets home to see how she reacts, as this is the main computer she uses. Hopefully we can get by with just the one:-)

I would have to say that China does not have the fastest avaible. My wife is from China, and she vists all the time, she is there now, and when we try to use yahoo messenger or skype at any of her family's homes, it is very difficult.I have no problem video chatting with Europe, or within the USA. Maybe the backbone is fast, and the individual conections are slow, or maybe it just gives the government censors time to check things. Either way it is not very good there.

I have one system that went to 58000 on March 13th, then dropped like a rock to about 45000 and has since stayed there. I have tried uninstalling seti and lunatics and all associated files and reinstalling, turning overclocking on cpu and gpus off and on, every combination of things I can think of, but nothing will bring it back up. Similar systems with 2 gtx580s are doing high 50s to low 60s. I have some single GTX580 systems that are at 30000, but unless one of the cards has had a problem where is is slower but not dead, I cant figure it out. If I get some spare 580s then I might try swapping them out to see, but this is all I can think of. At first I thought it was Seti, because everyones numbers were dropping about this time, but then they seemed to go back up again except for this one system.

I think the best bang for the money is 2 used GTX295s, with some money left over. Each one can almost keep up with a GTX580. You would end up with an RAC of around 45000+ with this setup.

Here's another idea. Cubix make a unit that you can put up to four video cards in, with its own power supply, and attach it to one pcie slot in the host computer. So take 8 slots in host computer x4 video cards in each Cubix = 32, and with gtx590s multiply that by 2 and you get 64. Not sure how well that would work with the thouroughput and the ability to feed all the cards, but it sure would be interesting. Maybe it could be the next stage of upgrade.

Not sure the brand. It is a Dell XPS 730 H2C with the stock psu. I don't know how to tell the amps on each rail, unless maybe it is on a label on the psu. I will have to take a look and see.
