I just looked up the price of an Xbox one X console. on the Microsoft site. Its listed at $ 499.00 US.
Id like to know VIc, Is how much you have spent of your own money or put on your credit cards buying soda and chips that you will throw away?
Seems to me that you could have saved the money and bought one. Every day the bid just keeps on getting higher. Your wasting money on a fools errand.

Bernie, you did an amazing job taking care of your father.
You did :)

When I chose to be my mother's caregiver, I didn't think about the end. I hoped it would be a long time away, but there's no way to prepare yourself for a parent to die.
No :( There isn't :(

You "know" that's the way round it's "supposed" to be, but when the roles get reversed and you find yourself being their "dad" or "mum" to whatever degree their frailty, the bond they established with you before you ever knew who they were, forms as strong I think.

Your right Annie, You cant prepare your self. Even when you know that day is not that long off. You hope it can be put off, But you don't have a say on how long that is.
I haven't posted it On the main board here. But My Mom passed away Oct 30th. It was sudden and totally unexpected.
And again Annie, you are so right on about the bond a mom has with her children. I was probably almost 4 when I knew I had parents and a younger sister.
And even after almost 4 weeks, I can still feel the bond with my mom.

Annie, For some reason, You have the knack of posting words that I need to read. You have the rare ability to take a feeling that cant be described and putting it into words.
Thank you my friend.

I received a supposed call from lady who actually left a message on my answering machine. Claimed to be from National Grid ( who is my electricity provider ) saying they had a problem with my delivery charges. Left her name number and a reference number. Well to say that it stunk to high heaven is an under statement.
I got last months bill out and called the 1 800 number. After wading through many robot prompts I finally got a real person. Told her of the phone message and she confirmed that's yes it was a scam, And they had received many calls on it.
Most robot calls wont leave a message. But don't count on it.

I Bought two extinguishers today for our cars. Both are B C for cars, Trucks and boats. They are Kidde, But not on the recall list.

Good move! It is still on my to do list.

At $12.95 each that isn't a bad deal I thought. I still need to get off my butt and get the older ones tested and the one refilled up to pressure. I should just buy one more new one for the home and keep the old ones after being tested in both cars. After seeing many cars fires One extinguisher might not be enough.

Both of mine are rechargeable. But I know that the one that is 11 years old now, Was a replacement for one that was only half charged. And they would not recharge it because it was over 10 years old.
I'm going to look into seeing what the price difference is between a basically one time use and rechargeable one. Mine are 2 1/2 pound ABC extinguishers. Which as a Air Force fire fighter and was once a volunteer fire fighter is what we trained with a lot. I know they are not very good on large wood fires. But they can put out a good size oil fire.
I'm considering going to a Halon or whatever they use now days for a grease fire in a kitchen. I had one in my own home once and had to use a dry-chem extinguisher. It put the fire our quick but even a short burst made a huge mess.
I will keep both kinds in the house and dry-chemical in the cars. And as I type this extinguishers will be added to the shopping list.
So you did a great service Mark by calling attention to the recall. One never knows when having a workable fire extinguisher will prevent a major fire or save a life.

You've given me the bug to buy a case , Power supply and stick my old I7 3770 mother board in it with my two 750 GPU's.

SSI is Supplemental Security Income, not Social Security retirement income, there is a difference, I get SSI now, when I'm 62 I can add SS to My bank account.
NO you don't get both. You will be switched over to SS when you reach your full retirement age, Which I'm guessing is either 66 or 67.
SSI and SS are based on your work history and How much money you have made over the years.
I have the letter right in front of me saying If I was to become disabled right now Id get$1,981 a month. Next year when I retire I will get $1,987 a month.
And ive worked every year since 1970.
SSI will not be added to SS. As I told you before. When My wife turned 66 her full retirement age. She went from SSI to just SS with no increase.
Folks always think ,When I'm 65 I will get SS and make big bucks. Well no you don't. Work under the table you get squat. Hardly work at all ,You get what you worked for.
I think your dreams are founded on bad web based info.

You said that you were in the army and had an honourable discharge, so isn't there an army pension somewhere? That would be based on length of service, so how many years did you serve in the army?

I doubt that Vic did the 20 or so years needed to get a military pension - much the same as our "short service" people (3 or 5 years) get virtually nothing, but do more than the threshold service and the pension starts to become a very useful amount.

My brother got a pension, but then He was in the US Navy for just over 20yrs, but like My dad, I did not, none in our family, even My uncle, were ever drafted. My brother retired with an E9 rating, He got 80% of His last salary.

I was discharged in 1980. If I had stayed in for 20, I would only have got 50% of my base pay. At the time it was prorated by years in service. A 30 year man got 75% of base pay. There were rumors of changes to the retirement plan. Like getting a small pension after 10 years. But I have no idea if that was even true.
If Vics brother did get 80% of his pay, It was after he was discharged and fighting the VA to get. It does happen for a service connected disability.

well yes I do have a kidde.
I do know the difference between CO2 and CO . Both will kill. CO is more insidious . I still don't like CO2 fire extinguishers.

May just have been a typo.

CO = Carbon MON-oxide
CO2 = Carbon DI-oxide

CO2 is what we breath out.

wasn't a typo, just being stupid. Hey it wont be the first time.

I don't believe in any plug in smoke alarm or CO2 detector. What if the power goes out?
Unless you have a generator they are useless.
To many folks will use the oven to heat the home which could be deadly.
Kerosene heaters, Biggest death hazard ever invented.
CO2 detectors are cheap buy a few for your house. Battery ones. They will let you know when you need to change the battery also. Plus you need get a new one every 7 years . MY old CO2 beeping was beeping every minute. I read the instructions and that was a signal that it was time to be replaced. So I bought a new one.
never take chances with your life.

I'd need at least another $236.00 a month in income, which I'll get when I'm 62, I'm 57 now
How are you going to get another $263.00 dollars when you are 62?
My wife had to go on SSI when she was 53. She had no raise in benefits when she turned 62. When she turned 66 she went from SSI to getting social security with no raise either.
Her best friend worked under the table for most of her life and gets only $400 a month. You get what you worked for not anything more. Yeah, You get COLA but then they raise the part B deductible so what kind of raise is that?
You bitch and moan you don't have enough money to fix things, but you buy crap from E-bay. And then post you cant make ends meet. And in the next post your going to buy a freaking Mustang.
I really think you need to be in a VA hospital.

Vic, You need to get real. There is no one who will give you a loan on what you make and what your current debt is. You can dream about grants all you want. It aint going to happen.
And those Pics you posted, Wasn't that the same place you had big dreams over a few years ago?
Jeez be happy were you live now. I hate to tell you this but any house new or not needs to be fixed as needed. Same goes for your car!!!! And driving with mismatched tires is stupid. The wrong size tire on one side of the car will cause it to pull to that side if you need to slam on the brakes hard.
You could save money by not buying E-bay crap hoping you can fix it. Tell us how many items you have fixed you bought off of E-bay? And how is the computer build going? haven't seen any updates lately.
You don't want negative posts? Stop posting wet dreams.
