ATI GPU not processing WUs
(Message 1289896)
Posted 1 Oct 2012 by Kevin Beasley Post: Hi, I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction on this, as I couldn't see anything that applied on other similar posts. I'm using an 1Gb ATI Radeon 5450 graphics card on a Win XP PC. Catalyst Version 12.8 Provider: AMD BOINC: 7.0.28 DirectX 9.0c I recently had to reinstall Windows, and have pulled in all the latest patches, updated drivers, etc. Previously, BOINC used to run things like Collatz Conjecture and Milkyway@Home on the GPU, but now doesn't - it runs them on the dual core Celeron CPU. Am I possibly missing a driver or something? |

BOINC Manager keeps losing selected computer
(Message 950675)
Posted 29 Nov 2009 by Kevin Beasley Post: How come BOINC Manager keeps losing the Localhost setting? Every day or so, after working fine both uploading and downloading workunits quite happily, BOINC will report that it is unable to communicate with the system. If I go into Advanced / Select Computer and set the Host to localhost, it all starts working again. This has only been happening with the last two versions on BOINC manager that I've used - the current one being 6.10.18 with wxWidgets 2.8.10. I'm running a fully-patched XP Pro machine, in case that helps. |

Feedback Loop (Aug 20 2007)
(Message 625355)
Posted 24 Aug 2007 by Kevin Beasley Post: I'm getting the same issue for 3 SETI work units. Is it related to the fact that all 3 SAH Splitters are not showing as "Not Running", or that 8 out of 12 of the MB-Splitters are Disabled? Luckily, my Einstein project is still able to send/receive work units, so I'm still number-crunching at the moment........... |

exited with zero status but no 'finished' file after logon
(Message 593563)
Posted 27 Jun 2007 by Kevin Beasley Post: Yes, this is known. The error message is more informational than a true error. The WU will probably complete with no problem. By going into hibernation your system just forces the programs to go on hold but doesn't shut them down. This message is generated because the Boinc client is prevented from communicating with the project application for more than 30 seconds as it is expected to be able to do. Are you sure this is really the case? The reason I ask is that I get exactly the same set of messages on my desktop PC, and that doesn't go into Hibernate mode at all. 25/06/2007 07:26:16|SETI@home|Starting 19jl99ab.28690.30993.1034646.3.72_2 25/06/2007 07:26:16|SETI@home|Starting task 19jl99ab.28690.30993.1034646.3.72_2 using setiathome_enhanced version 515 25/06/2007 08:12:28|SETI@home|Task 19jl99ab.28690.30993.1034646.3.72_2 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file 25/06/2007 08:12:28|SETI@home|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. 25/06/2007 08:12:28|SETI@home|Restarting task 19jl99ab.28690.30993.1034646.3.72_2 using setiathome_enhanced version 515 25/06/2007 12:11:11|SETI@home|Task 19jl99ab.28690.30993.1034646.3.72_2 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file 25/06/2007 12:11:11|SETI@home|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. 25/06/2007 12:11:11|SETI@home|Restarting task 19jl99ab.28690.30993.1034646.3.72_2 using setiathome_enhanced version 515 25/06/2007 13:39:21|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work 25/06/2007 13:39:21|SETI@home|Requesting 46 seconds of new work 25/06/2007 13:39:26|SETI@home|Scheduler request failed: HTTP file not found 25/06/2007 13:39:26|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work 25/06/2007 13:39:26|SETI@home|Requesting 46 seconds of new work 25/06/2007 13:39:31|SETI@home|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 509] 25/06/2007 13:39:31|SETI@home|Deferring communication for 11 sec 25/06/2007 13:39:31|SETI@home|Reason: requested by project 25/06/2007 13:39:33|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Started download of file 21jl99aa.18613.19424.753390.3.44 25/06/2007 13:39:37|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Finished download of file 21jl99aa.18613.19424.753390.3.44 25/06/2007 13:39:37|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Throughput 137482 bytes/sec 25/06/2007 15:09:54|SETI@home|Task 19jl99ab.28690.30993.1034646.3.72_2 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file 25/06/2007 15:09:54|SETI@home|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. 25/06/2007 15:09:54|SETI@home|Restarting task 19jl99ab.28690.30993.1034646.3.72_2 using setiathome_enhanced version 515 25/06/2007 16:24:17|SETI@home|Computation for task 19jl99ab.28690.30993.1034646.3.72_2 finished 25/06/2007 16:24:17|SETI@home|Starting 21jl99aa.18613.19424.753390.3.44_2 |

This has happened on several occassions where I've rebooted and it's taken ages to get a connection. Oddly enough, this only appears to have happened since I loaded the 5.2.13 version................... |

BOINC Messages - Are they self deleting?
(Message 142826)
Posted 26 Jul 2005 by Kevin Beasley Post: I don't remember the limit of the number of messages but anyway the content of that tab will be cleared once Boinc is closed and then reopened. So what you are both saying is, that at certain points in time it is best to stop and restart BOINC, otherwise the Messages log is going to get massive? Rather than a Number of Lines limit, I wonder why didn't they make it date based (say 30 days) or size based (like the Event Log)? Anyway, thank you both for the info. Regards, Kevin |

Damn You People Using Boinc 4.13
(Message 138593)
Posted 18 Jul 2005 by Kevin Beasley Post: Seti would sent out emails in Classic when the Application version changed. It didn't then have a Boinc Manager or Core Client. I haven't seen notes or anything else telling member to update and I think they should do something. Hopefully, when 5.01 (or some number) comes out the Major Version change will "Require" the users to upgrade since major version 4 core clients will no longer be able to get work, and then the users will ask "why can't I get work", or "why am I getting this message about "you are using major version 4 and need to upgrade to version 5 clients". Tony, Thanks for the history lesson - most appreciated. Okay, so here's Suggestion One - why doesn't the SETI team email everyone when there is a new version available? That would mean that most people would switch over as soon as they could. After all, they have all our email addresses. Second Suggestion, when they release the next version, why don't they make the WUs twice the size? There's probably some sound explanation that I'm sure some kind soul can put in words of one syllable for me, but to my way of thinking, wouldn't that mean less splitting of the tapes and less loading on the servers of people uploading and downloading as they'd being doing it less frequently? Regards. |
