I happened to notice someone (9898535) joined seti@home back in July of this year (7/10/13) and has a credit for processing over 4.8 million data sets while the last credit was for only 10 or so. Is this possible? If so, what kind of computer is he running?

Matt, I can't seem to find a good place to report what I think is an error of some unknown description. Maybe I'm worrying unnecessarily. While running 18fe05aa.26345.25584.884652.3.33_3 an undefined computational error ocurred. Do I need to report this to someone somewhere, or just let the system take care of it -- quit worrying and keep computing?

It probably is a fairly good time to upgrade now to BOINC version 5.8.16.....

This is a GREAT suggestion. The only problem is that Boinc can not then connect to the servers and I'm not sure what happens from there. But your note caused me to upgrade from 4 something. Thanks! Should something about this be put on the home page?

Since a search for "run time errors" brought me to this page, this morning as I wiggled the mouse for the first time I was shown a C++ illegal termination message which, upon doing anything, disappeared. The BOINC manager showed the work unit as having a computational error. I just checked again to get the packet number, but it is gone.

It has now moved on to other packets.

I just thought someone should know....

Martin,

Thank you for the info. I looked, but obviously missed the reference. I will most definitely keep crunching. (10k+)

I don’t know if BOINC is accurately depicting the data or not. However, someone should perhaps look at:

...
Base Frequency 1.420000000 ghz

The display showed a slightly skewed band of almost zero signal at the upper end of the frequency display. This zero signal band extended across the entire time width of the display at all display variations as the processing proceeded.
...

This is well known and is in the FAQs.

The centre frequency 1.420000000 GHz suffers a processing artifact and appears as a near zero 'trough' amongst nearby background noise.

Happy crunchin',
Martin

No, I don’t just sit and stare at my screen saver, but the anomaly was so unusual as to catch my eye.

Sincerely,
