just got to hope I have enough headroom in AMPs by turning off the current machines.

The new GPUs are very low power users compared to what went before.
A GTX690 under full load draws less power than a single GTX580 card under the same load. A single GTX690 actually draws less power than 2 GTX680s- about 85W less.

current machines in there are a little old now, might be time for an end of tax year refresh If I can pull more points, less leccy usage in the 1/4 rack all the better. Just me, or does there seem to be very little point in CPU crunching now?

Not a single GPU is in the rack, all the GPU power is in offices under desks heating the rooms!

Release date today for the 690, price wise = dedicated cruncher for sure!

Anyone care to guess at the numbers in terms of output? It kind of appeals to kick out one card that will beat (and some) my entire old diskless seti farm from back in the day :)

https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards+-+NVIDIA/GeForce+GTX+690

3072 cuda cores is just insane, that's pretty much got to be getting close to the realms of the CPU not being able to feed it - or saturating one of the transports? I dunno, but I'm excited about the card despite the cash outlet I am seriously considering a dedicated 24/7 cruncher in the datacentre rack - just got to hope I have enough headroom in AMPs by turning off the current machines.

I have the same problem with my setup, in both 6.4.5 and 6.5.0 and with CPUgrid. I can do half a dozen or so units, then every one after that quits out with;
Cuda error 'cudaMalloc((void**) &dev_cx_DataArray' in file 'c:/sw/gpgpu/seti/seti_boinc/client/cuda/cudaAcceleration.cu' in line 234 : unknown error.

If I reboot my machine, it then works again for a number of X units before needing a reboot. I'm also XP64 - I was half wondering about screen savers, or power saving on the monitor. If I'm sat here working then all units work, I went to play football and every unit from half an hour or so of me leaving was then invalid.

thanks all, I thought I had seen that a checkbox was coming, which was one of the reasons I was so surprised that the SetiCuda had been launched without it being there.

btw, another way is to use appinfo and opt clients.

Sorry for yet another question regarding CUDA. So I'm a 'basic' user (i.e. not me), and I don't want Seti to use my graphics card thank you, all I want is to use my CPU and use my graphics for errmm, displaying graphics.

So what tickboxes in MyAccount do I tick to get standard length seti units - without getting CUDA?

I've got it running back to 'normal' benchmarks are up to where I would expect. I've been through the bios checks for cpu speed and possible throttling and all turned off.

The only thing I can do now is watch and wait as tonight crunching happens.

Cheers,

My Quad Core is computer 4203220, two different results showing that it can perform, but has stopped doing so.

So then, my quad is running WinXP64, because it has to in order to utilise the 8Gb ram that it has.

It's stuck again with all four cores running units that are taking 30+ hours to complete, now that is some serious throttling  But it has completed some units within 'reasonable' time frames. CPUZ reports the cores at 2399Mhz, and all the memory seems to be running as it should.

So where do I need to look for weird behaviour - there is no appinfo, so running stock seti client.

Tigger is now exhausted :) The time is getting close and we are pushing real hard on our sponsor efforts as we finalise things for the trip.

Our chosen charities need your help - and a chance for a new cruncher whilst donating to the cause.

Some new pictures for you all to admire of the vehicle http://tiggerstravels.net/

Hello there fellow crunchers <waves>

Those crunchers who have been around a while will instantly recognise the name, "The Crunchy Hog" - a Seti farm stack built in the time before Boinc and the inspiration to many other farms.

Earlier this year, BobW the man behind the Crunchy Hog passed away from a heart attack. BobW was a member of TeamPhoenixRising and first unleashed the hog here

This year a select view members of TPR are going to complete the Plymouth-Banjul challenge. 3800miles of hard hard driving. Why so hard, well we couldn't do it in a normal vehicle could we ? Meet 'Tigger' at http://www.tiggerstravels.net/?page=about

One of our chosen charities for our efforts is the British Heart Foundation, chosen out of respect for BobW. So please have a look, visit our donations page and help us reach our sponsorship target. There are plenty of ways to help us - sponsor the British Heart Foundation (registered charity no225971) or sponsor our own costs towards completing the challenge, in return for logo space on Tigger.

There is even a raffle you have the chance to win a new cruncher, or a hovercraft experience (uk only) all with items donated by the forum members of Team Phoenix Rising.

Please, please, please help us acheive our goals.

Many thanks,

DoubleTop

Thanks for your input on the MAC's, not having any (well until next week) I was unaware the problem was the same with that platform.

I don't think there is a single DC project that treats all platforms the same, the one that came closest was D2OL that had a few catastrophic failures where users lost all stats.

Cross platforms should in theory make no difference, the same hardware *should" crunch the same unit in the same time and claim the same credit. That's the holy grail, and with Intel MACs surely possible within a test environment to acheive this ?

On the issue of optimisers, you are either open source or not. The recent events of accusations will surely make the project closed-source any time soon, and projects that have been closed will sit and go nah nah na naaa naahhh

Post:
We've seen a lot of moaning about lower credit etc etc all over the place, and a lot of entire teams have hinted to me that the project and switch has left a bad taste. I think there are some MAJOR points being left out here. A link to one of the other threads on equalisation was posted on the TPR forums and I have been asked by a couple of members to point on my thoughts to people on here. So a little copy and paste.

<snip>It would seem to be that the moaning is that on windows Seti Enhanced has made people get less credit, what people are neglecting to mention is that it is because Linux users are now claiming the same credit for work units.
Some big teams are moving off Seti because they see losses, I think people don't appreciate how big the difference between a windows claim and a linux claim was, big enough for me to STOP running boinc altogether on linux.

The crunch, only Seti enhanced has put in this "equalisation" code - the other projects have not done it yet and so it appears as if other projects give more points, and that it would appear is what is annoying people. The new seti enhanced is great as far as I am concerned, and other linux farmers that have always traditionally took a credit hit for running a better operating system.

So all those who have been happily claiming higher credit in the past are fogetting the real issue. I believe that enhanced is showing the way for the other projects, and that the sooner the other projects "catch up" the better. Lets not forget the science behind the projects shall we - it's not all about points now is it ?

Just thought instead of doing that, it might be easier if I could network boot these servers somehow instead, but I cant get my head around how I would set this up. Never played with network booting before...
Would be no problem having a 'server'(old pc) on the network for them to boot to. but how would they load the OS/boinc etc???
Can anyone give me some pointers?

Ive confused myself now!

Pointers on setting up a diskless farm server can be found Here

I you have any problems or questions during the install, register and post on TPR as I don't tend to visit here much. Recently, whilst checking my guide I ran 8 nodes off a p3-866 with 512Mb ram and a 20Gb HD. The only issue I can forsee is that if the machines are dual or multi core you will need to compile a custom kernel, but I am told there is a guide to this on the K12LTSP forums.
