Since Seti is in hibernation, new mebers can't join up & i expect all other similar functions would have been disabled.

BOINC Wide Teams is a BOINC function, it's got nothing to do with Seti or that this project is in hibernation. (Edit: it would've been better to ask this at the BOINC forums, to avoid the confusion: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/forum_index.php)

I've emailed David as well and asked him if he can still make this group (pointed him to this thread as well).

Best keep off allowing your Windows to update as another update disaster is here.

The specific updates are KB4598299 and KB4598301, with users reporting that both are causing Blue Screen of Deaths as well as various app crashes.

If you’ve been suffering from issues with your Windows machine following an update, check to see which version of the operating system you have installed. Versions 1909, 2004, and 20H2 are the ones responsible for this latest problem.

Ironically, the updates were supposed to deal with issues in .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8, but instead just introduced a different issue.

One of the most affected apps is Visual Studio, which obviously makes life more difficult for developers. In fact, it was the Visual Studio forums where Microsoft admitted that the updates were causing problems, and that a fix would be coming soon.

Apparently the update has already been implemented internally, and is being prepped for release, so it shouldn’t take very long for it to start reaching users. If you’ve been affected by those crashes on a regular basis, that’s good news.

It worked here. The 78MB app was uninstalled. Yes, an 18MB 'app' stays behind, but that's data. The browser app itself is uninstalled:

Minecraft will require a Microsoft account to play in 2021

Owners of the classic version will be forced to migrate

As long as they don't force me to buy the new version for 30 euros, it's fine with me.

If, like me, you also hate Windows Photos with a vengeance and want to return to your previous Windows' Photo Viewer app... you can.
Just follow what's written on https://quickfever.com/how-to-get-windows-photo-viewer-in-windows-10-and-make-it-default-photo-viewer/. Yes, you do get to download a registry file, but its contents are harmless (I've added its contents below). I despise the Photos app because it crashes all the time or stays in memory when you quickly try to watch some images and click the X on each image to close it before opening a new one. Photos can't do that. It'll crash. And then then nothing opens.

I've got the Windows 7 Photo Viewer app back and am happy.

On this occasion, we've had word that is was a problem of the s@h servers getting physically moved around and reorganized and the certificate updates hadn't yet caught up with the new moves.
And it seems to have fixed itself now, as both my phone and Chrome on my system no longer come up with the warning screen. Which leaves... why is Chrome downloading a proxy script from this site?

Okay, just tested it on the BOINC forums. Index now shows a post was made but you'll find nothing there. Not even moderators will find anything there.
I made a new thread.

Then hid the thread. That hides both the whole thread and the new time to post from the main index.
Unhid the thread.
Hid the post. That leaves the thread title without any visible posts.
Unhid the thread,

Then I deleted the post. This hides both the thread and the post but leaves the thread's new post time visible.
So that's what's happened in these cases. Admin made a post and instead of hiding it, he deleted it. That leaves the new post time intact.

(So it's the other way around, one has to hide or delete the thread for the time to revert. And not as I surmised hide or delete the post)

It happens when an someone posts a new thread and a moderator or admin then hides that thread. The time will go back to the previous old time when one hides the post first, then the thread.
If you just hide the thread, that thread's new post time will stay visible.

Same when an admin deletes the thread instead of the post. The post is what makes the new post time.

I updated one of my systems yesterday and after the reboot and login, I was greeted with a screen that told me we were now going to set up my new browser. This screen only had a "continue" option, no way to cancel or exit prematurely. Second screen told me we were going to set up Edge and did I want to set it as default browser and import my Firefox bookmarks? Thank the deities this screen did have the tiniest of X'es, but I could quit the screen. Then deleted the Edge icon from my desktop and quick launch bar. Of course it's impossible to uninstall this crapola from my computer. Thanks MS for pushing this onto me. But also thanks for not pushing it so far that it was the only option to have. You will probably wait with that for a future update.

If for HTTPS why HTTP projects were affected? If not only - where and how it improves secuirity?
As far as I know, no project has HTTP anymore for its connections to the client, because login information has to be sent and this has to be done securely, thus via HTTPS. Especially if a project wants to be held to the GDPR.

If you collect, store, or use the data of people in the EU, then the GDPR applies to you. And that means you may have an obligation to change the way your organization operates in some fundamental ways.

The GDPR requires “data protection by design and by default,” meaning organizations must always consider the data protection implications of any new or existing products or services. Article 5 of the GDPR lists the principles of data protection you must adhere to, including the adoption of appropriate technical measures to secure data. Encryption and pseudonymization are cited in the law as examples of technical measures you can use to minimize the potential damage in the event of a data breach.

People are people and they will answer however they like to stuff posted on the internet, no matter what forums you're on. You do so as well. I'm not on forums to hold your hand when someone gets snappy about things you post. If you have a complaint, you ought to know by now how these forums work, click on the red-x at the bottom of the post and write a complaint. Then a moderator will come snoop and see if there's reason to give a kick or not.
Even if tag granted directly by you :P
The title had nothing to do with that either, or with your complaint above about a BOINC for 32bit Windows being released.
20) Questions and Answers : Preferences : Change of BOINC web-settings is ignored (Windows, Boinc 7.1.6.5 x64) (Message 2051503)
Posted 9 Jun 2020 by Profile Jord
Post:
I answer this as I read your post along, so we can cross-post the same information.
To be honest, I still do not understand this limitation, why should I need a separate 'home' profile, when I am perfectly fine with the general settings? The Boinc client is set to 'home' location, does not find a 'home' preference and uses the general preferences instead. All fine!
Is really an extra 'home' pref necessary? I do not think so.
No, a separate home profile isn't needed, it's just the example I gave:
Now you can understand that if your computer is using the default or --- location and you have preferences set for Home, that every time you ask BOINC to update and look for new preferences, that it looks up the preferences for the default or --- location, not for Home. You have to set the computer's location to the correct preferences location.
I didn't mean (to imply) that you required a separate Home preference set. If you want to use the default preferences and location for your computer, that's fine with me. But just make sure they're set like that - and more importantly updated on that - everywhere, on all projects.

I pressed update for Rosetta in my local Boinc instance - No changes in my local instance since yesterday.
You changed the preferences on the Seti website, so BOINC will show you use the preferences set via the Seti website. Any other project using the same location for its preferences will get those changes propagated via the client. But to see in the Event Log that your BOINC uses the preferences from Rosetta, you'd have to change them at Rosetta, save them and use the Update command in BOINC accordingly. Then the Event Log will show that you use the preferences from Rosetta - and Seti will eventually change over to show the same computing preferences when it's had a contact with your client.

It won't be that you set preferences at Seti and that when they propagate to Rosetta that BOINC will then show you that you last changed them at Rosetta, because they weren't. You last changed them at Seti.

Overall it seems to me: The project, which saved last its preferences, overwrites the other one (of course work fetch must be enabled for that project, otherwise there is no server contact) and somehow the settings at the web backend are then synchronized for both projects.
Yes, correct. And not somehow, but via the BOINC client contacting the projects.

Slightly unfortunate: The link and text to 'web settings' from the preferences dialogbox in the Boinc client is hardcoded to setiathome.berkeley.edu - what happens, if there are users with no seti account and different projects in their Boinc client?
It's not. It will change to the project you set the preferences at as soon as you Update the preferences via the client (well, via the Update command in BOINC Manager). I even think there's no mention of any project at all when you first start the client and haven't been to any project yet. Something to test one day.

And if you manage several projects in one Boinc instance you have to remember, that the latest change for one project overwrites the general setting for all projects (when talking about work items volume).
That's what global means. :)

Last topic about separate setting inside a single client: Understood - only one cfg for all projects in the same client instance. Very good, it is complicated enough already.
I was awake last night anyway and have thought it might be possible to run two different preference sets on the same physical computer if you run one instance of BOINC in a VM, but that version will then have its own hostID and thus warrants the ability to have its own set of preferences. ;-)
