New Version Boinc
(Message 1360684)

If I understand ; with the new version you do not need to install lunatics now. Is that right? Do have set to 'NNT' to empty the cache before updating boinc. bj WØBJH AMATEUR RADIO |

GPU choices

Hi, The 460 are very hard to find if you are lucky. Got a 460 on my XP and does quite well as you can see. That is without any thing special except the LUnatic's install. So the more cores is better. Do read about some of the different cards as being a problem. bj WØBJH AMATEUR RADIO |

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/NVIDIA-Chips-Comparison-Table/132 I thought I had seen the two types. My big question is what does the "ti" indicate? |

Going to upgrade the xp computer (6452988) to Win 7. It has the 9800 gtx in now but would like to upgrade the video. One question is - what is the difference between a 650 and a 650Ti? (I know hard one) What would be a good one for this machine? Would like to stay within the $200 range. bj WØBJH AMATEUR RADIO |

gpu situation
(Message 1353344)
Posted 45 days ago by bj
Since the startup; my two xp machines will not ask for gpu work even though it had before the move. Still getting cpu tasks. My two 7 machines are asking and getting cpu/gpu tasks. Why not the two xp machines? Haven't changed any settings on them.Looks like one XP machine has gpu tasks now. Things are starting to show improvement now, so be patient. Check Raistmer's thread for more info on work fetch issues. Okie Dokie. Just checked them just now. Weird why the 7s' did and not the xps' but no problem. Got all the time in the world. Thanks bj WØBJH AMATEUR RADIO |

BOINC isn't interested in your computer name - you can even have two completely different computers attached to the same BOINC account with the same name at the same time. Since I'm not in a rush, I"ll probably set to NNT and let lt run dry. I think I did this same thing before. Another situation arose, so might be later on but thanks to all for the suggestions. bj |

Men Quick replies. I think I'll do what Amauri said. Kind of figures that would be possible but didn't want add more problems than what there are. The op system has been already install on a drive on the windows 7 computer yesterday. So called MS and see if I could swap the drive into a different computer and do a clean install which would have to be re-activated. Didn't think I would be able set Win 8 the way I want (even got it to boot straight to the desktop) but it seems to work better than Win 7. Had to call Cable to make sure about the email since Win 8 does not use the pop3 protocol. Seems like all is coming together with the Windows 8 op system so far. Even some apps that wouldn't work on the preview works now. Thanks guys for the replies. bj |

Hello Plan to install Windows 8 on the bj1 (6599604)computer in a few days. Currently, Windows 7 is installed but was going to remove that drive (after all work has been uploaded) and install Windows 8 on another drive. My question is 'Can I name my Windows 8 computer as bj1 while the Windows 7 computer is still showing?' So, in other words; there would be two computers named bj1 Windows 7 and Windows 8. bj |

Two questions about windows 8 Great. Had to use protected mode when I had the preview version of 8 but couldn't do any nvidia tasks. Otherwise; it did fine on windows 8. Have another ssd drive on the way so will set 'nnt' and swap drives next week. Thanks bj |
Great. Will do that later. Question is now: do I use both apps (x41zc overrides lunatics) in future installs? Sorry if this all sound dummy but never got that deep in this but have been in the project a few years. Just would like to get the most of what I have. Like if you have a v8 engine and put in 4 spark plugs. Kind of defeats the purpose. Thanks Claggy for your patience and help. Seems like when ever I have a question; you pop right in. bj |

Basically copy all files to the project directory, and run aimerge.cmd Claggy OK Put the files in the projects directory and ran aimerger.cmd Restarted boinc and no errors so far. From now on; do I need to install the lunatics files or the x41zc only? Also; the other win7 has a 660 nvdia, so do Iuse the 42 or 50 version? bj
|

Some opinions on a good gpu

An original stock speed GTX 460 1GB card has a max wattage of 160. A GTX 660 has a max wattage of 140 with twice theoretical SP FP rate for under $250USD online. Dont have it overclock unless done at factory. But it does perform better than the 460-se which is in the other windows 7 computer. Got the 660 to replace the 460 which will replace the ati in the xp computer. bj |
