... after all, we can't all go back to the stone ages and live like that for the rest of eternity (or until our own sun goes into Reg Giant [or even Supernova] stage and destroys Earth anyway).

Our Sun is much too small to make a supernova. After passing through the red-giant stage (incidentally vaporizing the Earth) it will become a white dwarf: extremely hot but with insufficient mass to drive the fusion of heavier elements, it’s expected to spend the next few billion years quietly cooling down.

whether or not our sun goes supernova in the far future, we should have large colonies on Mars by the end of this century, so who cares about our sun going supernova and Earth is destroyed?! We'll survive! YEA!

In the near future, I can't wait for the mall in the space station! :P

hmm... I think I should start calling myself the Supernova Blonde on stage! lol

I know I haven't been crunching work units for a long while due various reasons not related to SETI@Home.

Anyway, I'll crack open a bottle of the good stuff as I drink in celebration with a HOT model in a picture next to me... ;-)

Post:
whats all this about aliens?
i thought we were looking for Elvis !

Elvis? He's right here;

LOL!!! Well, we sure FOUND Humour! Hahahaha |8-))

Anyway, switching back to topic... as for ET, the ability to telepathically communicate with others logically enhances communication, thus leading to significant progress. Information for the Greys passes between themselves pretty much like data on a computer from one application to another via RAM only. Information for us humans passing between each other is like data coming from a hard drive on one computer, transfered to a 3 and a half floppy disk, then taken by a person who goes to work but uses the bathroom for an hour first. Then that data floppy disk is taken and transfered to the hard drive of another computer, but gets virus scanned first automatically for a few minutes, and then the data is saved, however some of the files are corrupted. So not all the information is completely transfered. But that only happens sometimes. However, the point is inefficiency in data transfer; that's humans, generally.

The overall point is that these aliens that have traveled to Earth (from who knows wher) have achieved an interstellar age. While, for us humans, we still are striving to have a mall in space via a space station orbiting the planet. LOL

As for belief, it is hard for some to believe in UFOs. To actually know they have already visited is even harder to believe. We humans are all different and have certain conditions to be met in order to believe in whatever.

The ultimate point is that us humans have an incredibly long ways to go in progress, as a world society, given many of our limitations. The idea of the existence of extraterrestrials on a baseline is really just that; an idea. One of the points is that we humans have LOTS to explore and learn.

Several hundred years ago when almost everybody thought the world was flat, a person who was nobody may have talked about the world being similar in shape as the sun and moon, but had no sure way to prove it. Just about all of us, in relation to the subject of aliens, are just like that person.

To believe is to be open minded to possibilities that may or may not be. Never say never to an integer variable greater than zero. For booleans, it's possible to say one or none for sure given some facts. However, life is a float that is never zero! LOL

Darn, where's my coffee??? >:-O

Is there anyone here running SETI@Home and DOES NOT believe in the existance of alien beings, UFOs, ET, the sectoid race (the greys, whatever you call them), and so forth?

And from this one UFO documentary TV show, it appears US military folks have actually seen alien spacecrafts in the ocean flying in and out. So they're hiding in the waters! Is there a "SETI@Underwater" project around? lol The ocean is a PERFECT place to hide on the planet earth. And maybe, just maybe Aliens could be doing something intentional or accidental that causes earthquakes in the oceans! *just a thought*

12) Message boards : Number crunching : bad BIOS? (Message 430102)

Post:
hi all this morning i turned on my X2 and it failed to get through the BIOS check freezing after checking the CPU. any one know what is going on?
it is an ABit sli motherboard.
thanks all

hmm... Another ABit motherboard. Why am I not surprised? I've already had two out of two personal system failing experiences with Abit motherboards that were resolved AFTER changing the motherboard. Also, I'm ignoring all my friends talking about their problems with Abit motherboards. Abit motherboards are great boards IF and while they work.

One possiblity is the RAM. If there are more than one stick, take all out except for one memory stick, and try booting. After failure, take out the stick and try another one. If all memory sticks fail, it's most likely not the memory causing the problem. It's highly likely to be the motherboard.

Just a suggestion to save time if all else fails; just try another brand motherboard such as Intel or Asus (those are the only other two I remember having experience with). I personally HATE weird problems at system start up.

One ultra rare problem is the CPU. But I've never heard of a problem with the CPU. If it's the hard drive, one could easily tell as the system would be on the part of checking the hard drives or at least trying to boot the OS. If it's the graphics card, usually nothing will appear on the screen. CD/DVD drives could simply be removed and are typically not part of the booting process unless it was made that way.

I have no idea what he said... but he's trying to help. :-}

Based on the graph below, I wonder if a bunch of people (strikers or whatnot) have decided to rejoin SETI@Home in correlation to the arrival of Intel's Core 2 Duo processors...

Snacks for thought... more like crackers if this "cracks" you up. ;-) If it's something entirely coincidental in terms of time frame with conjunction of a graph correction that may have taken place, then nevermind.

Either way, things are looking good since I noticed my RAC rank dropped this month. :/ That means, many people are either joining or existing users' are getting faster computers or it's just one big fluke.

If this was already discussed somewhere, I appologize. Please just post a link to that thread to assist drunkards like me at this time. LOL

It might not be going up, but at least it's not going down! Trends going firmly straight is not entirely good, but it's definitely not bad, which is GOOD! And if the graph is not updating accurately, that's bad. However, it looks good! And looks is all that seemingly counts in this world for many people. lol

In any event, let's look at the positive side. We can still download and do work. All uploads will just work eventually.

Maybe if we donate more: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/donate.php whatever downtimes will be minimized. (just a positive outlook)

Cute cats btw. I love cats!

Speaking of cost...

The total work units that were invalid due whatever error (throughout my crunching history starting last year) and gotten zero credits, but time was spent nonetheless; the total time spent for invalid work units with errors is 570,519.47 seconds. That's for 165 WU.

At 21 cents (USD) per hour (I'm ignoring the 30 cents per hour on my latest bill), the total cost for errored out work units is $6.66. It gives ya the creeps, eh? LOL

Them bloody errors... costing
$6.66

The errors is ok, but the exact cost bothers me. AHHH!!! I'm just hoping the 21 cents per hour average is not correct. :( (It is an estimated average.)

Is that graph even correct? What else is going on to be causing a continueous steady decline like that?
