As always, thanks for the update.

Ouch, the best of luck getting it all working properly again!

PS: maybe in about three weeks we may be able to make life at your end a (tiny?) little bit easier ;)

I originally thought "one update a day will probably be more then enough".. well I don't mind being wrong this time, I just have got to give you this update:

Donation counter: aprox. $ 1,412 (€ 1,035 we're past the 1,000!!!! :D )

I almost feel like Santa Claus writing each post, but I'm only giving a small portion of this (already) great figure, it's all those Dutch crunchers ! (and I really like being one at the moment :D)

At the rate this is going, we're going to beat our previous donation challenge!

Donation counter: aprox. $ 1,081 (€ 795)

For the record, this figure is the actual amount donated to the foundation-account, so no "promises", Berkeley is really, really getting this :D

PS: if this keeps up... what's the cost for naming a S@H-server? I'm thinking something something like:

This gives me an idea (seriously this time) would it be an idea to auction the right to name a new server?

@Vipertje, this a serious thread, not the cafe
@Uli, OK, ehm, I understood from Mike not to make this too public, but you're the one getting the requests, so it's your choice ;)

And another big step: Donation counter: aprox. $ 1,016 (€ 745)

(I decided that my calculations are flawless and decided to donate the difference a bit earlier then next year)

@Vipertje,

It is not possible for Berkeley to check who did or did not contribute in this way. If you really want a green star on this site you'll need to contribute directly.
Furthermore, our foundation will contribute with € 500,-, that's money that has been previously donated. If one would completely answer to your request, everyone in our team would have to get a green star.. that's slightly overdoing it a bit, wouldn't you say?

But hey, neither do I and we both got a cool windmill on our forum to prove that we donate :D
And even more importantly we know that we contribute financially, that's the most important thing, isn't it?

PS1: the € -> $ rates seem to be a bit unstable !? I went to wisselkoersen.nl and that looks much better, so I altered the $
PS2: the date's of the post below weren't correct.

As you know we as a team have become the third team in the rankings of SETI@home on January 27. An achievement we are proud of.
To celebrate this, on March 1 2011 The Foundation SETI@Netherlands will donate € 500 (+/- $ 680) to Berkeley / the SETI@home project.

We accept additional donations!
All donations to SETI@Netherlands in this month (February 2011) will be added to this amount. You can therefore ensure that the amount to our favourite Distributed Computing project is much higher by donating! No matter how much you donate, large or small, everything is welcome! All donations from our regular donors in this month will also be added to the amount!

Where to donate:
Donations can be made to the account of the Foundation: number 44.74.635 SETI AT Netherlands in Apeldoorn.

The advantage to using the Foundation account to donate to instead of directly to Berkeley:
There will be only one transfer fee for donating from the Netherlands to the Berkeley account, therefore small amounts will be more interesting to donate, since SETI@Netherlands will already donate (and pay the transfer fee), so 100% of your donation will benefit SETI@home.
For Dutch companies: donating to a Dutch Foundation is tax deductible (on request we'll even add your logo to our "friends of page")

AD: for non-Dutch people/companies, you may off course donate directly to Berkeley and mention the amount you donated here, I'll add that amount separately in this thread.

You can also visit our website to read about it in Dutch: link

In 2009 our "10 year challenge" reached the amount of $ 2.000 Let's see if we can beat that!

Donation counter
05-03-2011 $ 685 (€ 505) [edit]the first donation was already there :D[/edit]
04-03-2011 $ 680 (€ 500)

I have decided to reduce my electric bill and donate the difference to SETI. This will result in a reduction of my RAC of about 2 - 2.5k and a yearly donation about $150 to $200

PS: for those wondering why I don't have a star, my donations go to S@NL, which donates aprox. every year to Berkeley through our founder account. This is the way I use to donate, since it is TAX deductible (as I donate through my company).

Not only donating comp time for free but actually donating dollars and parts to keep us going! There's not many other "jobs" that have the workers do the work for free and actually donate to keep the "job" going.

I have been thinking (and calculating).... I have a computer running at home and my girlfriend complains at a regular bases (a few times a year, so I can manage ;) ) about the computer being on 24/7 with the main argument the electric bill..

I started calculating and rounded things up.. In the Netherlands electricity is rather expensive and when I calculate with 150W 24/7 it sums up to 1.3MW a year. There is a site where I can calculate the costs (link, for those Dutch people interested). Fumbling around a bit with the numbers I calculate that the electric bill is about € 250,- higher because we have a computer! Taking into account that we do use the computer for "non SETI activities" and the exchange rates I have decided to (dramatically) reduce the usage of our home computer and donate the difference to SETI@HOME (this is a promise for early next year, that I will donate aprox $150 to $200)

instead of:

OK, I had done this, resulting (somehow) in corrupting my CPDN work, the relation is unclear, but I fixed it by resetting CPDN also (which didn't do the trick) and re-installing BOINC (which did do the trick). Only bummer now is that boinc is trying to download some png images for S@H (I have installed the optimized clients).

Ah well.. when it all starts to really work again, it'll start crunching again..

YES...but only after you have reported and cleared your cache or you will get NO credit for the work that has been done.
Hmmm, my main rig "only" has 35 Wu's to report and about 150 in progress.. that detaching and re-attaching part.. is that really a good idea? If so, I'll be all for it..

As far as using it to pole for 5 users or 15 users if they are spread out enough would not normally kill the DB. Yes I know that you have worked with the Seti Staff to insure you have the minumal impact.

That said I would say to watch the process closely, if it appears that the queries are talking longer suspend them.

Regards

I have kept an eye on it, if annything the results seem to come faster (if at all, then the script aborts and tries again later on).

But good point, I'll keep keping an eye on it.. ;)

Pappa,

You are making a good point, Are the requests towards the 'userw' URL also of impact for the stability at Berkeley at this point?

If so, when it is of impact, I could shut down (or severely slow down) our "zero-day-stats"?

Your thoughts please.

I'm hoping for a stats-update also. I've made my system so that it can cope with a hickup in statsexports.. even across the change of a month.. but not two, so I really hope you guys can give the export-script a go this month.

Could you tell me if you can make it this month? If not I'dd really like to know.. the I will need to do some thinking & programming to make my stats cope with it..

Thanx very much in advance for your reply.
