21) Message boards : Number crunching : No ATI Tasks? (Message 1320155)

Ok, I'm looking here: (the right place?)

C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu

There is no app_info or the others... but this is there - AstroPulse_Kernels_r1316.cl

And in control panel Lunatics is still installed.

I don't know what's happening!

Thanks Joe, I have no idea what was changed or how...
What do I have to do to get it back to an anonymous platform?

I haven't had any normal ATI wu's for several weeks, only the odd AstroPulse...
What's going on?

Soooo,

ATI users get shafted on credit but NVidia users don't? (I use both by the way)

Does anyone know why .vlar's give crap credit?

FAIL

At least put a tab with ALL so we can see everything.

Now we have to click through 5 pages to see the info.

Stupid update, the old one was far better....

On my ATI PC I'm getting long and short WU's and also AstroPulse, the run times and credit for each type of WU is similar, EG: longs take 1000 to 1300 seconds for 100 - 140 credit.

But what's with these .vlar work units?

They take twice as long for the same or less credit?

Can I change a setting so I don't get these?

Thanks

Count 0.33 works on a 1 GB 450 like a charm.

Well I opened my case and said to the 590 'why can't you crunch 3 at a time like your smaller 450 brother?' ....nothing changed.

VW, I tried the count at 0.50 or 2 WU's per GPU and all is good, GPU usage sits at 96 - 99%, the same as yours.

So its now crunching 4 at once and the run times are 12.5 to 13 minutes or about 750 seconds. Are you getting these times?

hbomber, how do you Un-SLI the card?

Well I know someone in the PC industry who already has a 690 and said it will be released by May 5...

I hope so cos I want one, now!

3072 Cuda cores in 1 card

Stuart, can you squeeze this card into your budget? it will probably be $1200+ AUD at release

Ok, installed x41g and changed the app_info to <count>.33</count>

It will only run 2 WU's at a time, it tries to start a third but says 'waiting for GPU memory'

The GTX 590 is a 3GB card... don't think this should be happening?

Lunatics = 3rd party software that will help Seti run a lot better on your GPU.

Also, using just your 1 GPU will be faster than all 8 cores/processors of your CPU.

I use a GTX 590 (stock) but dont run it 24/7, its a dual GPU card, the new model is about to be released - GTX 690 and its reported to use a lot less power. You should consider this card.

The GTX 590 is very quiet, and runs at about 75 degrees C. You can crunch 6 work units at one time on this card.

I use MSI afterburner to monitor the card settings / temperature / fan speed.

Overclocking = heat = all sorts of possible problems if your house is hot. You might have to go watercooled.

Motherboard, CPU, RAM etc... not important, all the crunching is done with the GPU.

PSU - get above what the card recommends, if they say 500w, get a 650w. I use a 1000w.

This is one of the best places to get your stuff from in OZ:

It looks like you are only receiving GPU tasks.

The last CPU task was reported yesterday.

All new tasks on your PC are now GPU only.

Go to your preferences page, does it say 'use CPU' yes or no?

You might have to install Lunatics to get the most out of your GPU.

I am doing this now on 2 of my PC's

That way your card could run 2 or 3 tasks at once at close to 100%.

Hey Mike, do I need to remove -sbs 128 from the <cmdline> ?

Also, I have Lunatics installed on another PC running a GTX 590.

That was about a year ago, is there a newer version I need to update to or is the old one ok?

And do you know what to change in the app_info to maximise the 590? I think its only running 2 WU's at a time at about 80%. Thanks

My CPU's are normally always at 100% because I'm crunching Primegrid on them.

But I will suspend PG for a while and see what happens with the AstroPulse tasks.

This is what I currently have but I will change it:

<cmdline>-instances_per_device 3 -unroll 4 -ffa_block 2048 -ffa_block_fetch 1024 -sbs 128</cmdline>

What does that do to make the card faster?

Well I just ran 3 x AstroPulse v6.

All started at the same time,

First: 53 mins
Second: 150 mins
Third: 260 mins

Doesn't like these as much, the GPU would only run at 65%...

Ok thanks Mike,

I have changed Lunatics to run 3 WU's at once, the GPU is running at about 90% and sometimes up to 98%.

When its doing 3 work units (seti@home enhanced 6.10), the GPU seems to be giving 1 work unit about 80% and the other 2 about 5% each.... one finishes in about 3 mins and the others take about 30 mins.

Is this normal?

Ok this is from my appinfo...

Mike, do you have to do the suspend/resume thing on your 5850 or does it run at 100% by itself?

Do I need to change the <count>1</count> to .50 and the -instances_per_device from 1 to 2, or just the count?

Also this is in there twice for seti enhanced, x2 for astropulse v6 and x4 for astropulse v505, do I have to change them all?

Um... not exactly the way I want to crunch.

Who wants to babysit their PC, suspending and resuming every 15 mins...

Is this what you and everyone else does with their ATI card?

What version Catalyst did it start from and are we stuck with this crap forever?

Is there a fix for this bug?

Do I have to suspend and resume every new task or every time I reboot?

Is it a bug in the Catalyst drivers? I have version 12.3

No OCing, everything is at standard settings...
