1) Questions and Answers : Wish list : Anyone creative and/or good at video production. (Message 447593)

The Seti team just got the new x4500 server Thumper up and running and looking at the list of servers they could use more new ones. Sun's site says they currently have a contest going to win a new X4500. Even the Technical News says they would like to get a new server.

If anyone has the skills of video production and are feeling generous they could enter this contest. Or maybe a Berkley film student would like to try their hand at a good oppertunity for experience. It seems like there are so many videos on the net that someone would want to take on the challenge.

I was just reading about a lunch with Warren Buffet going for $620,100. Since the new data recorder has been installed couldn't the old one be auctioned off to raise funds for Seti? There have been stranger auctions than that. Seems like it would generate interest in the news which would have the added effect of more people joining the project.

The Planetary Society has articles that tell you about Seti Plans.

Here is the Parkes Observatory information:

I think it actually goes:
Arecibo = search at the Equator
Allen Telescope Array = Northern Hemisphere search
Parkes Observatory = Southern Hemisphere search

I edited the client_state.xml file and removed the proxy section as suggested. Boinc tried to connect again right after I opened it then the proxy section was repopulated which caused another crashed.

Man this sucks! I can't use BOINC at all!

Petit, Let me try to explain:

According to dictionary.com,
ox·y·mo·ron = A rhetorical figure in which incongruous or contradictory terms are combined

om·nip·o·tent = Having unlimited or universal power, authority, or force; all-powerful

In other words jesus should not be looking for Aliens with Seti@Home because he should already know they exist. He knows all and sees all. Hope that helps :)

The first one to complain gets nominated! That's one vote for Basti as forum moderator.

In SETI@home Preferences I entered an incorrect URL for both the Background and Logo Image. Now BOINC wants to keep downloading the incorrect ones even though I have got the correct ones entered and downloaded. Will this eventually go away or does anyone know how to stop the download?

I don't see where anyone has answered you, but I think you have to change your settings to 0 days/0 days on each project (aka Seti & Predictor).

Just join another project then they won't have to do crunching overkill.

Is that of feature of ver4 too. The "Seti/Boinc actually works for once" option. That would be nice. Oh, that was too mean. I didn't mean anything; I was jk.

It freaked me out when I first downloaded and saw it, without looking at the key first. I think it went something like "AHH CPDN took over half my disk space". Then I looked at the key and saw that it was just free space allocated to BOINC.

In the right graph, my free space is so large the it only shows a big black line for all the projects. Not really very useful.

HeHe, True!

I was also wondering what the new version of BOINC incorporates? I don't notice any new menu options. I guess it is just server improvements and compatibility with CPDN? I'm just waiting for the "Use your video card for crunching" option.
