Nice but cloudy and a warm 13°C, forecast says it'll be turning wet and windy as the week goes on.

Triple digits coming for me this week.

Before we all forget, this website setiathome.berkeley.edu is not where the upload/download servers are located. Open your server response file in the BOINC directory and you will see those are at setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu

The website traffic is carried on the normal campus data paths.
The data is carried on the SETI paid for Hurricane Electric path.

Trace to the upload server is this.

3) Message boards : Number crunching : About merging computers (Message 1673693)
Posted 21 days ago by Profile arkaynProject donor
Since I just got a new computer, I had a look at those listed on the account and was reminded of the fact that the computer I had before the last one showed up as five different entries. So I finally decided to merge them, but sadly picked the most recent one and apparently it kept its creation date as well, so now it's weird and nags me, even if it's a computer I no longer have for over 7 years.
However, it couldn't merge the actual first entry for that computer because the CPU is shown differently, so if the newly merged entry could be merged into this old one, it'd actually be proper. (Assuming it merges into the one you pick and not the newest by default.) But it won't let me merge these two because it says the CPU was different, even though it wasn't, just that as of one point more details were apparently reported.

So, yeah, just something that nags me now that I did it quite on a whim and I'll feel crappy for it. Is there any way to merge 4080559 into 136548, keeping 136548's ID and creation date?

Thanks...

It always merges into the newest one.

I'm OK with the downtime when they can't create new WUs, but why should we have to go to the home page or post to the forums to find this stuff out?

I mean, they push notices out to the clients, announcing the latest available version upgrade, and other stuff like "News from Berkeley SETI Research Center", why not push the downtime or trouble issue stuff as a notice as well? I monitor my clients waaaaayy more than I hit the forums and such.

It's like wiping before you poop, it just don't make no sense!

IMHO. YMMV.

Crunch on!

It should have shown up in your client as they posted in the news forum, that is where those posts come from.

7) Message boards : Number crunching : WU In Progress Limit? (Message 1662365)
Posted 7 Apr 2015 by Profile arkaynProject donor
Thank you Etienne and Zalster for the explanation. Perhaps this limit was established in a time when processing power was much less capable than it is today, even for the servers which have been updated a few times since BOINC rolled out. I think I may look into building a VM or two.

Actually it is put in place to keep the servers from crashing and burning.

When the limits were not in place, several of the servers were crashing because their hard drives were full.

Looking good. None of the new WUs have validated yet but I am not seeing any overflows which is a good sign.

Seeing some [Cuda 6] valids there now, so Cuda 3.2 no good on Maxwell confirmed for Linux. (for this application anyway, as on Windows)

I have done some research in/on linux and a hand full of GTX780's (1- max 4).

What would be the best way to deliver the code to the community To Help Us All to do more science before we get the Jason's x42? (Jason?)

I have done some kernel optimizations (780 specific, not tested anywhere else. just on my computer) and some stream-inclined/induced/oriented changes to the already Well and Good optimized Jason's and his precursors code.

What would be the most neutral way to publish? (I can not host any piece of a code for three-four years) ??

I'll drop the source to Your mail box or whatever.

I'm running two MB at at time with 3 GPUs and in between an AP on GPU or CPU if available.

See for yourselves (on top hosts) .. (remember to divide the time by 2 for any MB).

You can post it on my site if you want.

Also, see this thread

It will require you to go with an app_info.xml to receive CUDA work though.

All 3 bolts that hold the motor on have sheared off from long use.

Remove the Max_Concurrent lines as you do not need them for that system.
12) Questions and Answers : Windows : Why BOINC not use my GPU? (Message 1652392)
Posted 13 Mar 2015 by Profile arkaynProject donor
My GPU is NVIDIA FX880, but BOINC look like didn't using it, just using the CPU, why? And what should I do?

Can you post the first 30 lines of your BOINC log?

Best guess is that BOINC is installed as a service which will not recognize the GPU.

NO he is running CPU as well, but his GPU is throwing the errors.

P.S. This is not a Panic Server Problem.....

It does not have to be about server problems, it can be anything computer related.
14) Questions and Answers : GPU applications : GPU died? (Message 1651075)

First observations so far.
CUDA-Z detects my GPU and all its cores but crashes video driver when showing "Perfomance" page. No errors from CUDA-Z itself, but "Perfomance" shows zeros in every cell after this fail.
ShaderToyMark - works smoothly, no errors, music is in my favorite 8-bit style. Benchmark went well with 60 to 136 fps.
LuxMark fails video driver when checking NVidia. Using HD 2500 or CPU works fine but pictures rendered are weird.
FluidMark works only if PhysX is computed on CPU. When checking GPU it renders only a second or two (I see first hundred of frames) and then video driver crashes.

BUT! MilkyWay@home just completed about 10 WUs on the machine and all the tasks are checked as correct.

P.S. To detect CUDA on GeForce 8400 you have to install newer driver. I found myself version 340.50 to work fine both on 750Ti and GeForce 8400 simultaneously (though under XP)

Milkyway is using OpenCL and not CUDA.
15) Message boards : Number crunching : No output again (for just one WU)? (Message 1650927)
Posted 9 Mar 2015 by Profile arkaynProject donor
Interesting. I'll consider trying to contact Milkyway devs then, once I have some things out of the way, even if what they do is fairly specific to them. For Cuda, CPU, and android purposes I've been looking at an overhaul (might as well since I've settled on switching to Gradle to bring 5 separate build systems down to one, including work embedded/MCU stuff), so switched chunks of code using Raw threads to active thread objects wouldn't be difficult, and be more extremely portable.
Not sure if these articles are behind registration walls:
http://www.drdobbs.com/parallel/use-threads-correctly-isolation-asynch/215900465
http://www.drdobbs.com/parallel/prefer-using-active-objects-instead-of-n/225700095

At least with no choice but to stay custom, then might as well do it properly.

Matt himself may be worth contacting, but in my experience some of the currently-active devs there (some of whom are undergraduates) understand BOINC even less than we do.

Or Travis.

It is a soft spring day outside and buds are opening on my plum tree.

I am going to go outside and enjoy their beauty.

It is cold and raining here.
