Sorry, I should have said "hibernating the monitor"......not the CPU.

It is still happening to me with ver 6.4.6. Have to restart BOINC to get the GPU back to processing.Seems to stop when screensaver starts, or hibernating the monitor starts.

I changed "computer preferences\use at most 2 processors" to 1 processor and usage to 100%. Erratic pointer and scratchy sound are now gone. I guess SETI was getting upset looking for that other processor I suggested. Thanks y'all!

I corrected the error that showed me using 2 identical machines, and changed computer to "1 processor." String of errors probably caused by when I deleted all of BOINc to get rid of the extra KWSN_2.4V programs I was using. Had to reinstall BOINC and start from scratch to get it working with 6.2.19 "as-is." When SETI was downloading WU's, the downloads kept "failing" and I guess SETI was uploading them as errors. Reached maximum of 58 "turn-ins," and had to wait until the next day before I was able to get downloads without any errors. I'm still trying to find out if I can get the memory temp in this machine.

Was running enhanced, but took it out yesterday and am running just 6.2.19 as it is. Was overclocked, but ran it back to 2.2 G about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Will have to get help to check memory temp. I just disabled Spyware Blaster, and the problem is much reduced. Increased cpu usage to 90% still had a bit of trouble with [pointer and sound.) Reduced this to 75% and problem is virtually gone. Will run a while like this and see what happens. Thanx for the good advice to all. I'll be back if it isn't cured.

I don't have any indication of hardware problems. Have ample cooling. Twin 80 gig hard drives run by RAID Striping and WINFAST MB. All are relatively new. (1 year.)

The Intel 2.6 is running independently at another location. Problem originated long after the other computer started, has caused no problems.

Running ver 6.2.19 on XP Pro AMD 64 dual core 4200+. With this ver of BOINC, and 2 diffeent older vers, task mgr "performance graph" shows cpu hitting 70% to 98% steadily. This is causing erratic mouse pointer and scratchy sound. Have to cut cpu usage back to 10% to stop the erratic behavior. This happens ONLY while running BOINC. Google hasn't brought up anything pertinent to this problem. Anyone out here have any ideas as to what is causing this?
10) Questions and Answers : Windows : GETTING NO WORK (Message 807116)
Posted 2180 days ago by Profile Thurlow Farnsworth
My post in this forum yesterday has disappeared. Tried BOINC ver 6.2.18 which caused several problems including frequent crashes. Uninstalled it with Windows Control Panel, and reinstalled BOINC ver 5.10.20 which had been running just fine. Reconnected to Einstein and got new work. Messages said all units processed and uploaded. Now I can't get ANY work for SETI nor Einstein. Am getting these messages:
9/11/2008 4:37:48 PM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work
9/11/2008 4:37:48 PM|SETI@home|Requesting 691200 seconds of new work

Only thing I can figure out is that ver 6.2.18 left something in the residual files when I unin stalled it that is fouling things up. Have NO idea what this can be. Anyone out there have an idea?
11) Questions and Answers : Preferences : SETI accessing modem on its own (Message 784577)
Posted 2234 days ago by Profile Thurlow Farnsworth
I have both wireless modem and telephone modem in my system. How can I stop SETI from attempting to access the internet by telephone modem by itself? Under Options, I set 3G as default, but Seti will at times try to access by phone on its own even though I am actually on the internet through the wireless device.
Anybody have this problem solution?

I just resolved that for myself. I removed the phone line from my computer and connected it direct to my TV for satellite service. SETI can't find it now.

Pictures are cached, so make sure that after you changed and saved the link (or used the same link but with a different photo), that you clear your cache. That depends on what browser you used.

Thanx. Checking back, found that it had been done. By the way,. congrats for the 5 months.

A little side issue: anyone know why the .png files keep downloading over and over again during times trying to get new work units?

You're using BOINC ver 4.25...I would recommend that you upgrade to the latest BOINC version.

Ordinarily, the png files should not be downloaded every time you try to get workunits. See if the upgrade helps.....

Thanx: you're right. Guess I'll have to keep up, now.

BOINC message says project is back up and giving out work, but all I can get yesterday (March 4,) and today is "no work from project" and deferring communication for varying lengths of time - mostly "10 minutes and 6 seconds." Anyone getting any work now??????

Hi,

as i remember this is a bug in 4.19. It is fixed from 4.25 onwards, where the client remembers the "disable internet access" toggle-state even after a restart. You just shouldn't forget to set the state before switching off the system in the new versions ;-)

You can install the current recommended version 4.43 (including a new scheduler policy, see various threads like this at the number crunching area) or the earlier recommended version 4.25 (where most people think the user interface is quite ugly).

You can find older versions here.

You're right. Ver 4.25 has corrected the problem. Thanx for the advice and for pointing me to where I could get this version.
