I turned off Comcast, and I threw away the dish advertisements.
All I get now is what comes through hulu (at least I can pick what garbage to watch, and NO INFOMERCIALS!) and what I get over my digital rabbit ears.

There was once a song.. "57 channels and nothing on". Now we have a lot more channels and still nothing on.

"Do you know the greatest thing about television? If something important happens at any time, ANYWHERE in the world....
.... you can always change the channel."(Rev. Jim/TAXI)

yes deliberate civil disobedience can be peaceful. It is never well appreciated by those trying to enforce against it.

Where peaceful protests fail, often violent protests follow. Shutting up dissent is not the answer. Discussing it intelligently often is.

See the aussies are at it again, Hydrating Beer: Researchers Create Brew That Rehydrates Drinkers By Adding Electrolytes.

This bit stood out:

However, don't expect the hydrating beer to contain the same amount of alcohol as your average brew. In order to achieve the feat, researchers also had to reduce the alcohol content.

*very very very sad smiley*

Cheers :)

Wait.. what?
Let me think about this for just a moment.. they are hydrating the beer..
the typical way a beer drinker would rehydrate would be to have a glass of water..
This beer has a lower alcohol content.. so basically they water down the beer..
oh and add electrolytes.. so they can call it science.

Sorry.. but I prefer my beer without Gatorade.

As far as the toolbar, I installed it once and then just leave it disabled in IE. Uncheck it when I see it. Google knows far too much about me without a toolbar.

raccoon's are notoriously good at opening things, crawling into things to get to food. Garbage cans are a favorite source, and they do not pick up well after themselves. Dog/cat doors they have no difficulty with, and they do dig.. often a bit at a time. Drywall is not difficult for them to dig through.
So besides the potentials for disease, there are many reasons to not want them inside.

They sure are cute outside though.

The psychologist is looking for you. Quit ditching her! ;-)

Shouldn't that be the Seti@Home psychiatrist? ;)

Either profession would probably help. :-D

All I got from them was a restraining order, what gives?

I would say mission accomplished.

Um.. yes, yes I would. I think you assume much to assume you would need to lay prone the entire trip. And reasonably, he has billions at his disposal, and can acquire further billions. Is this so different ( and his cost analysis shows significantly LESS) than high speed rail?

seat belts fastened, in a pod, take out your reading material.. and quite possibly in and out a lot faster than it takes you to get molested at the airport.

this is not a domestic solar installation, it would be pure industrialized. And we are talking about a payback in total kilowatt hours used. That is what makes it "self powering"( and the self powering/solar thing I am not sure who put that in, but I do not recall hearing about it for this project, although less fuel than flying seems an EASILY obtainable goal.

Chris, solar can feed excess back to the grid, providing additional power, and at night the conserved resources when demand is less.
These might be cogeneration, nuclear, wind(many areas are quite windy at night in California) hydro can easily fill the difference.

If the power generated exceeds the power used, and more is produced during peak demands then it can be said to be self powering.

As with Tesla, they said it would never happen and it is. Same with SpaceX. This guy has a track record of getting things done. While it is not a solution to all the problems, I would not be quick to dismiss it too quickly. Right of ways along the I5 corridor should be wide enough, and the primary this route would have been suggested is it is primarily straight and flat. Outlet tubes at alternate spots along the route should not be difficult to engineer. And in fact this project has been sent for further engineering. Case: open.

Same as it ever was,
same as it ever was.

Hi folks I have a large mug of calm-the-heck-down(aka coffee) and will happily share.

A bit of info just for reference..
Dr. Anderson does not like imperfections to be pointed out.

The staff are doing what they can with what they have to work with.

Along the way things WILL get balanced out again. Slowly. We are talking Glacial. Pre climate change.

The staff will not come in here and tongue lash you for not thinking everything is great. They know it is not. But they would really rather have a cup of coffee.

We all see some value to looking for E.T. . Not all of us see the same value.

Cheering and Jeering each other is not going to help matters. A grand sense of self importance is really going to end up embarrassing. For everyone. So have some coffee. It really is good.

If you must write a letter, then write a letter. Just be ready for less than satisfactory responses. And no, I do not want to know what they are.

In the mean time, I recommend crunching what you can get, let the credit situation work its way through the mill, and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

Gandhi hunger strikes were a symbolic gesture.
The Boston tea party was a symbolic gesture.
Standing in front of tanks at Tiananmen Square was a symbolic gesture.
Protests at Tahrir in Egypt were a symbolic gesture.
Rosa Parks sitting in the front of the bus was a symbolic gesture.

Symbolic Gestures can and have changed the world.

Here is the secret: you use solutions where they work, and not where they will not. For where they will not work: you find another solution.

It sure beats putting your head in the sand and saying there is no problem.

they do not. Yet people still fly there on a daily basis.
As far as being unproven, Pneumatic tubes are a very well proven technology and certainly not new.

And doing things the same dumb way never solved anything.
